View Full Version : 92s posting hand

i have 92 of hearts and i post in cutoff in a 15-30 game. im usually a wait for the blind kinda guy, but im with a pal who doesnt like to play more than 1-2 hours so im feeling impatient. i post and get this lovely sooooooted hand and some guy just to my right raises. he plays okay, but he's a bit loose and this could be a steal. i call cause im soooooted and oz told me i could call with 73s against two players in the blind so heck im sure to call here with position. well then the sb 3 bets and this guy on my right caps it. hmm. i fold.

of course the flop is 972 with 2 hearts. the turn is a 7 and the river is a 6. they both have AQ, although the guy on my right has AhQh, meaning in this exact instance the pot wouldve been very bloated on the flopnd probably turn and i wouldve won a ton. damnit.

I went years without posting behind the button just to avoid starting a session with preflop choices like yours. Lately I've been posting behind when the game and collection call for it, whatever call-for-it means. I made the change because of 2+2. And I figure I'm stuck about $600 because of it. It's up to about $7300 now, I've been keeping track, how much 2+2 has cost me.

My preflop decision in your spot would depend almost entirely on mood (am I coffeed up yet?), who raised (do I hate this person?), and who is on the button (can I make him go away?) and in the blinds (those miserable saps).

But if I'm going to play, I'm going to raise, cards be damned. The idea of calling from the cutoff makes me wanna frup. Yeah, you're right, I should go back to never posting behind.

Hmmm. Something wrong with the deck? Maybe you were offsuit!

In a 10 handed game with a SB two thirds of a BB(as in 15/30), it costs you 1.66/10 = 0.166 Bets per hand if you start at BB assuming you don't always complete or 0.2 if you always do. If you post on the cutoff it costs you 1/7 = 0.14 bets.

Plus I like having position with my blind, although as you guyz discuss it can hit you in the ass if the "steal" raiser actually has a hand.

If the structure is SB half the BB like in 20/40 then 0.15 with BB and SB or 0.14 on cutoff. Its so close take your pick.

id estimate ive made about $25k more than i wouldve by now thanks to 2+2 (probably $5k or more thanks just to tommy posts!).

funny how these things vary from newbie kid coming here to grizzled vet coming in and unlearning superior habits. lol.
