View Full Version : For fans of Bob Morgan Only

Played with Bob Morgan this weekend at Hollywood casino in Shreveport La.. We were playing $20-40 holdem. On Thursday and Friday, Bob played his normal game while racking up his daily quota. Those of you who have played with Bob will acknowledge he plays a little more aggressive than S & M would recommend. He also plays many hands that S & M would rank as Group XXII or lower. Somehow Bob manages to make it work and more times than not he leaves the game with more chips than he bought. Having played many hours with Bob I learned not to underestimate Bob's style. I just recognize it is not for me. After playing with Bob for two days I was prepared for another wild ride when his name was called for Saturdays' game. Unbelievably for an hour and half Bob did not raise one hand. He did not call many hands either. He actually folded several times in the big blind for a single raise. I thought maybe Jim Brier had read him the riot act over the phone that night. Then like turning on a light switch Bob reverted to usually style for the next several hours and was up about two racks when he announced to the table that he was leaving when the Big Blind reached him. No one at the table tried to change his mind. Then I saw the most unbelievable play. Bob folded in third position. While folding Preflop is somewhat rare for Bob, as he mucked his hand the dealer accidentally exposed Bob's hand. Two Black Kings. Comments from fans of Bob will be appreciated.

was he managing his money--afraid he would lose?

My problem is that I win a rack, then lose it back.

Anyone who's not a fan of Bob Morgan shouldn't be playing poker or reading. Go, Bob, go!

Nice post, semipro 50.

If you know how much time and effort Bob has put into learning how to play his starting hands, the tales of how he actually plays them become things of beauty. /images/smile.gif

Wow! - I didn't know I had a fan club!!! Thanks for the nice comments everyone.

First of all I haven't read many post or posted anything in the last 5 weeks because I'm in the middle of 5 huge projects all at once. However, when I glanced at 2+2 this post was at the top of the list.

I appreciate the poster's good intentions, but he got most of it WRONG!

Anytime you see me LOOK at my hand UTG and fold pocket kings, please call the guys in the white suits and have me committed!

" Bob folded in third position"

NO, I mucked UTG

"While folding Preflop is somewhat rare for Bob, as he mucked his hand the dealer

accidentally exposed Bob's hand. Two Black Kings"

The dealer did NOT accidentally expose my hand!

Here is how it really happened:

I had been playing 5 1/2 hours and was up $1372 ($250 per hour at 20/40)

My goal is 5 big bets per hour or $200 per hour. (I don't always achieve this of course, but it is ALWAYS my goal). Since I had exceeded my goal and my friend was wanting me to have dinner with him; I thought this would be a perfect time to quit.

A friend of mine in the game (Mike) is always giving me a hard time about how crazy I play, but in a very friendly way. After I announced I was leaving when it come my blind, Mike says why don't you just leave now because you are NOT going to play your last hand anyway.

So to be funny, I picked my cards up WITHOUT looking and slammed them face down

and said you are right Mike I'm NOT going to play my last hand and everyone laughed on my end of the table because they knew I had NOT looked at them.

Then my curiosity got the best of me and I quickly grabbed my cards again and looked at a pair of kings. I immediately turned them face up and everyone roared!

But here is the best part of the story, Dennis flopped a set of tens and won the pot!

My radar was really working!

Thanks for the comments!

Bob has often told me that it is important to "vary your play" and "be deceptive" in order to "throw your opponents off" and remain "unpredictable". I guess he has found another ingenious way to accomplish this. GO BOB!

I, too, played with Bob this past weekend in Shreveport. Thankfully, I was on his left, and we talked for 3 or 4 hours. He definitely has many gears! Unfortunately, we both got roasted in an extremely fired up 20/40 game.

In that entire 3 or 4 hours we talked, I never told him I knew him from here.
