very nicely played indeed.
UTG probably has TJ and is trying to get rid of all the gutshots with his checkraise and then when the second 2 hits the river itīs definitely a raise since you most assuredly have him beat now...

Why wait for the river to raise?

Hi Jim

I usually call and then pop him on the turn here.

I'll take the risk for an action-killing card to come on one street, but not two.

But I don't see anything horribly wrong with the way you played it.

I thought there might be a good enough chance that I was behind until the river. Worse, if he's on a draw, why squash his semi-bluffing? I love it when players raise their own draws.

[edit] Plus, it's really tough for him to 3-bet me on the river unless he has a set or a made draw.

Because he's more likely to pay you off while his draw is still live? You also might run into a check/call on the river.

Why is JT the only hand he'll check-raise with here?

Do you fold to a river 3-bet?

Will you still raise the river on any card over an 8?

I would raise the river against any opponent that I knew was reasonable and especially if they were a straight forward MTer. When the board paired runner-runner, it just made it an obvious raise. I also fold to the same type of players' 3-bet.

Players who typically jack their draws will also bet it again on the end if they come up empty. The way I played the hand just felt like a good happy medium amongst all the possible holdings out there.
