20 40 full table Paradise game.

Cutoff posts $20 along with blinds.

I get dealt QJ in seat 5 and decide to call.

Cutoff raises.

Button, small blind, big blind, and I call.

8h 4d Tc Flop

Check to cutoff who bets $20.

Button raises to $40 and everybody calls.

8h 4d Tc Qc

SB checks.

BB bets $40.

Would you call or raise in this situation?

Thanks, Poohbear

I wouldn't be in that position. I would have folded pre-flop, or raised.

If I let someone else play my hand up until that point, I would fold. I am a dead duck in this hand. BB has straight or 2 pair. At a minimum, I am outkicked. The others have many outs to beat me anyway.

Tighten up your game!

I tend to loosen my starting hand requirements some when a dead blind is posted but I agree that QJ was pretty weak in this position.

Flop call was poor mainly because I risked a reraise by the cutoff. Implied odds probably make a $40 call OK or borderline but if cutoff raises I am in trouble so I should have folded.

The pot was big and I thought I had pot odds for a gut shot draw on turn. Again, problem was I could have been raised by cutoff or button and even if I do hit I might split so I should have folded.

In this particular hand everybody would have made the wrong move if they knew what my opponents had. The BB had Q9 and the cutoff 45. A 5 came on the river and he took home a $600 pot.
