Not the hero in this situation, just want to know what you all think of the play.

Home SNG, 3 handed, blinds t25/t50
Hero (1775)
SB (2700)
Button (525)

Hero is BB with 9 /images/graemlins/heart.gif 7 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif
BB is t50

Button limps, SB completes, Hero checks.

Flop (t150): 6 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif J /images/graemlins/club.gif 8 /images/graemlins/diamond.gif
SB checks, Hero checks, Button bets t50, SB calls t50, Hero raises all-in (t1675)...

What do you think of hero's push with the open ended straight draw?

Results to follow.

I really don't like this. I think that there will be far better spots in the future for Hero to get all his chips in the middle. I can understand him making a semibluff raise if he senses weakness, but why put his tourney on the line for such a small pot.

Just my opinion

even in home games when your 99% sure theyll fold, you shouldnt put it all on the line.

as said hero, whoever that may be, is risking too much to win too little.

however, if the pot was larger, perhaps as little as twice as big, this move becomes more and more valid in my eyes.

just out of interest, whats the pay-out structure. if only top place pays i can see the value in this move in dollar over chip terms. top stack will fold unless hes staring at a monster, and the third guy isnt too much of a worry as he cant cut you down too far. but you still have outs to win the hand, a big pot, and put you in contention. certainly enough so you could leverage a deal out of top stack.

If I sense weakness, I raise, but I don't push here. I'd much rather lead out with the pot-sized semibluff on the flop.

don't like it...it's a short stack play, but doesn't look like you are, really...

As everyone has said so far this is a bad move. If he was short stacked it would make more since but the blinds are very low compared to his stack size. I really dont see any reason to push right here theres really not much more to say just a bad move.

I don't like this move for a few reasons:
1. Obviously the pot odds are terrible if one person calls.
2. Most skilled players will put you on a draw, no reason to raise so much otherwise.
3. There is also a dangerous flush draw out that someone might be willing to gamble with.

Hero can make a good-sized raise without pushing. In hindsight, I like hero's check-raise plan on the flop, but definitely not that big. I like a raise to about 200-250 here, maybe more.

Payout structure was winner take most, 2nd gets the buy-in back.

I was big blind with J8 for top two, SB had J6 for another two pair and of course our pusher hit his straight.

Is the check-raise the right move here? I would think leading out with a bet of 200-250 after the SB checks would be enough to give any potential flush draws improper odds to call.

On the other hand, a check-raise in the 200-250 range could be more likely to earn a free card on the turn and gives the Hero the ability to check-fold the river unimproved.
