I think I may have played the hand right. But the result disturbs me. Is the flop raise "mandatory" or a bad move?

What happened? Someone spike a straight?

Raising 88 in a loose game is correct, but it's not correct in a tight game. If you're SSH educated, raise it up and outplay them on the flop.

Don't beat yourself up over your play though. I looked good to me.

I'm not sure why you raised the flop. The bet came early, there really aren't any draws, and you can only beat middle pair. I think you got lucky.

I wanted to see where I was. If I got 3-bet, I'll call to see the turn or fold.

He acted first and bet into a field. Unless you know he's a maniac or a LAG, you're behind often enough where raising a small pot doesn't get you much in the long run.

Also, it's generally a bad idea to raise for information. Average Micro players call way too much, and the smarter players are capable of 3-betting with weaker hands than yours or are capable of flat-calling the flop and checkraising the turn with their monsters.

So why'd you raise the turn?

Im leaning towards folding on a board like this. It is raggedy so you know he probably isn't betting out with a draw, most likely TP, so you have 2 outs. The pot is small so you can fold and not lose sleep over it.

Fold the flop, fold the turn, and, um, spike an 8 on the river to make yourself feel okay about this hand.
