View Full Version : Why I quit playing online

I was overly dramatic and apparently misleading with the "something went wrong, very wrong" remark in a post below, referring to what happened after I stroked the $10-20 Paradise game for four months at its outset.

I never did worry about cheating of any kind.

What went wrong, very wrong, was me. I got addicted. In the same way an alcoholic or a smoker falls off the wagon with one taste of the forbidden fruit, I got to the point where it was impossible for me to play online and lead a balanced life. And believe me, I tried. That's what addiction does. It makes you try.

I'd quit for a month, and go back, play a few days, a few hours per day, man, this is great, I've got it licked. Three days later I'm playing 20 hours sessions. I'd quit again, for two months. Repeat cycle. I'd uninstall Paradise. A few months go buy. Heck, I'll give it one more shot, my disciplines are so good right now. Wrong.

Sure, I've played lots of marathons at live poker games over the years, way fewer now that before, but I was never sickly crazed like how I got with online poker.

No complaints. I think online poker is great because thousands of people are doing what they want to do. It's just not for me.

I have to admit, I love it as well. That's why I stick to small limit (2-4 while in casinos I play 30-60). I can't get too addicted to that limit. I find that I play for approx 40 min every night before I go to bed. Since I don't own a TV, it's sort of like watching the news before going to bed, but a lot more fun.

Plus, I've run $300 to $3200 this season /images/smile.gif
