What would happen if guys like Negraneu, Lederer, Hellmuth etc. showed up at the 25 dollar No Limit tourneys at you local B&M?

Would they kick everyone's ass? How often would they make the final table?

I'll go with 50%, I got a small sample: Tom McEvoy played in 2 sub $100 buy-in freezeout tourneys in Feb. '04, and made the final table 1 out of 2, I believe he went out 6th.

I'm guessing that they would get bored, play like jackasses, and bust out early. Whatever money they would win at a $25 tourney would mean nothing to them.

So guys like Paul Phillips, Ben Affleck, and Phil Gordon couldn't get up for a measly $10K buy in event?

Rich people play in the WSOP because of the prestige of it and the boost it would give to their ego of beating pros. I don't think winning some crappy $25 event at foxwoods would really do much for phil hellmuth and others.

Looks like we are talking about a 25 dollar buy-in, not 10,000.

$25 to you or me is more than $10K to Paul Phillips.
So to him a $10K tournament is like playing a $25 tournament.

there are a lot of $5-10K tournaments that aren't at the WSOP.

Honestly, a lot of these guys would slit your throat to win a 25 NLHE tounrey. They don't really care about the money, it's the competition that they are after.

A friend of mine played in the WSOP and we played a few weeks ago. $5 buy in tourney with 4 or 5 decent players 2 mediocre and 3 complete novices. It was late on a sat at a friend's cookout.

I thought he and another guy who wins a lot of tourneys we play in were going to have strokes when the Host's 14 yo daughter called them all in with garbage. The money is inconsequential to them, it's the competition. Haven't you guys ever hear Howard Lederer interviewed?

Over the past 10 years or so a number of world class type players have entered bicycle casinos small buy in tournaments($20 entry fee).

In fact a few like Kathy Liebert used them to learn proper tournament play.

Lots more have played in the $50 and $100 buy in tournaments. TJ and Men are the two best players who have entered these in the LA area.

I suspect this is happeneing less and less as there are increasingly more high buy in tourneys out there.
