First hand of $20 PP SnG. I'm dealt 8d8s in early position. UTG min-raises, UTG+1 calls, I call, MP calls, MP+1 calls. Everyone else folds, so it's a 5-way pot.

The flop is 9c8cJh; UTG bets 50 into 175 pot. UTG+1 folds. Your move? (I have a strong feeling I should either have pushed or...gasp....folded)

I raised to 250, MP folded, MP+1 pushed. UTG folded. Your move?

IMO you did the right thing there. A call or smaller raise would probably induce a call by someone on a draw. I am guessing your opponent has either JQ, 10x, or a flush draw if he cold calls your raise. Any card that you think would help his hand (ie. a club, 10, 7, Q, or K) comes on the turn, be very careful if he checks it to you. Hope this helps.

I would move in, I think you're almost certainly ahead now but giving a cheap card would be awful.

I'm thinking you're right.
What about the second decision, i.e. do you call MP+1's all-in?

What are the starting stacks?

If they are 800 this is an easy call if they are 1500 then we can think about it. The reason is at 800 You have Pot odds with to call the straight, 2 holdings to fear (9-9 and J-J), and a huge amount of holdings you have beat.

To sum up, an easy call if you start at 800 and a consideration, but probable call starting with 1500.

one of my flaws is playing large hands on coordinated boards. why? because I usually push in this situation. dont know if it is right or wrong but i do know that too often i am on my way to another game.
