Bets out or check-calls?

Hand 1: Bet the river and fold to a raise. I think you'll get a hopeful call from any pair because you could have non-spade overcards. But you also represent a potential very high spade, so that should deter a passive player from a bluff raise without a spade.

If you check he will know you have no high spade and hence no spade at all. That means you will usually have to call a bet when you are behind.

The strong bias toward suited cards really helps you. If he had two spades the roof probably caves in on the turn. Without two spades he is not so likely to have any because his cards will so often be suited. Also, if he flopped a pair, you know that one of his cards is not a spade. That only leaves one card that might be a spade.

Hand 1: I think it's fine, as long as you're willing to laydown to a raise. Another option is to check-call if MP3 is a known bluffer.

Hand 2: What kind of hands would CO have to cold call here? Your hand is poo if he has any piece of the board, and the only thing CO would pay you off on possibly is a smaller pocket pair of his own and possibly Ax. It's possible CO has a draw like 10 9 or two high cards, and I'd prefer to check and call his bet. I think it's more likely you'll profit from catching a bluff bet than bet for value.
