40-80 holdem with an overs button. Eight players
have the overs button in a nine handed game. For
those unfamiliar with an overs button the blind
structure remains the same, but the betting doubles if only overs players remain so in affect the game becomes 80-160. The game is loose but
not wide open and somewhat tighter than normal.
The tightest player UTG raises who doesn't have
an overs button. He hasn't played a hand in
seemingly an hour. The next player folds and
I look down and have pocket Aces. If I make
it three bets I'll probably be headsup with the
tight player and pickup a small pot. So I decide
to smooth call and hopefully raise out the tight
player on the flop and win a big pot against the live ones when the betting structure doubles.
Three more players call including the blinds.
The flop comes QQ5 with a flush draw. The BB
bets, UTG folds, and I raise and we are headsup.
The turn brings a blank and the BB now bets (the
bet is now 160) and like an idiot I call knowing
he has a Queen and likewise on the river I call
without improving. He turns over QJo and I muck.
The blind comes to me and I quit the game disgusted. I was disappointed not by me slowplaying Aces, but by my stubbornness in not
folding on the turn when it was obvious I was
beat. I gave myself the opportunity to win a
bigger pot knowing that my chances of losing increased, but I failed miserably to act on my
read and lost more than I should have. Comments appreciated.
