Anyone bet the ponies?

Is there any profit in horse betting? It seems popular, but as a poker player, I don't understand how it can be +EV.

I have some relatives that train race horses in NY and they recently spurred my interest (although they never mentioned gambling).

i don't bet on horses, but there can be +EV. but from what i gather it is really hard to cap it.

Dont bother the winning long term horseplayers are few and nearly non-existant. The game is so hard to grade and rake is horrible.

I know of a horse racer who is SEEMINGLY a winner. He's been doing it for 20-30 years, and recently paid cash for a new car for his wife out of gambling winnings. I'm not sure if this was his one big score or not, but he consistently peels 100's off his roll to pay for stuff. He's also a certifiable -EV gambler when it comes to casino games though.
