AJ on button with one EP limper

Any comments on how to play this in a typical game? Buddy and I were disputing... I say to raise to get HU with the limper; he says to limp to get proper odds with a drawing hand. Couldn't find any particularly applicable passages in HEFAP...

Umm, drawing for what? With this hand you don't want a lot of callers. You raise to isolate the limper and take control of the pot, not call, let others in and just hope you hit.

Definite raise, unless the limper is trying to play a little fancy with a limp raise or there is a monster in the blinds you have the best hand, and if you are beat they'll let you know by reraising you.
