Am I the only one that does this? Two novels for me are re-read at least once a year. The Catcher In The Rye and Summer of '42. They make me laugh and I truly believe these books have changed me for the better.

The Catcher in the Rye, 1984 and Homage to Catalonia are the books I reread the most. Not quite once a year but fairly often.

For a while I read Johnny Got His Gun once a year. Then I loaned the book to a friend and it's been over two years since it's been in my possession.

That reminds me...

They are not great literary works but I reread Lawrence Block's Matt Scudder and Bernie Rhodenbahr neovels over quite a bit. I also like to reread Dennis Lehane.

I have also reread Catch 22, Oliver Twist and all the Harry Potter books (to my son) reecently.

I'm surprised GIANT isn't on your list, given your namesake. Haven't read the book but the movie is excellent. I'm not sure that I've seen a woman look more beautiful on screen than Liz Taylor in that movie.

As for me, I re-read The World's Most Dangerous Places quite often. A great, if somewhat morbid read.

i end up reading Watership Down once every year or two- and Amy's eyes and Where the red fern grows fairly often as well. They are all books that i read/were read to me as a kid and i have an emotional attachment to them.

I don't know if i will every reread War and Peace- i enjoyed it but not enough to spend another month reading it again.
Anna Karenina on the other hand i finished in the spring and i am already getting the itch to read it again. That and Les miserables are probably going to be staples for a long time.

Catch 22. It's especially a good read right now with the war in Iraq discussions.

I've read this, once. The question for you is, do you still reread John Galt's 10,000-page long monologue? That section made me want to stick forks in my eyes.

Once a year seems like a lot to read any novel. I have read LoTRs several times over my lifetime, with an average of every 5-6 years since I first read that series.

I can not imagine reading any novel each year. It seems like that would be boring.

I had to stop 1/2 way through. Brilliant, but too disturning for a fragile soul like myself.

This section makes the point with too heavy a hand, like Ayn Rand beating you over the head w/ it. Much like a mystery where they have one character explain the whole thing to you, rather than putting it together yourself. It's not necessary, and maybe doesn't give the reader enough credit, but it certainly doesn't make me want to jab sharp objects in my eyes! That's what Catch-22 does, IMO.
