Playing live at Trump, IN last Friday night, this is one orbit into the game for me. Table is very loose/passive pre-flop and loose/aggressive post-flop. Maximum buy-in was $200, I'm at $300 from my $150 buy-in. All other stacks less than $200, except Big Stack Guy ($1000). Blinds are $2/5.

I'm in the SB with AQ/images/graemlins/heart.gif. Five limpers (including BGS) to me, I raise to $25.
- Question 1 - was this enough of a raise?

BB and all the limpers call(?!).

Flop comes AQ/images/graemlins/club.gif9/images/graemlins/spade.gif.
- Question 2 - your action?

Bet 1/2 the pot, hope for a raise, then go all-in /images/graemlins/smile.gif

yeah, the raise is fine. could be 30, but 25 is fine. pot on the flop is 125; i'd bet about 90. smaller aces (and maybe a Q) will likely call but the draws don't get odds. push on the turn.

Pot on the flop is actually $175 - five limpers, me and the BB. Betting 1/2 - 3/4 of the pot in this situation puts everyone except the BGS all-in. Does that change your thinking?

Yes, with top two in this type of game I would bet 1/2 the pot and call an all-in (except from maaaybe bigstack guy, who I would have to think about -- probably still call anyway). The pot is too big compared to your stack in order for you to get away from it cleanly.

Either you can check raise all in if you think the EP'ers will make a stab, or you can just bet/call all in if you don't.

$175 already in the pot, and unless someone slowplayed aces or queens, or someone has nines, you are ahead. Push in on the flop. There isn't enough room to bet and hope for a raise to push in on. This is a nice-sized pot and you want it now. There almost certainly is either a JT or two clubs in somebody's hand, and even a $100 bet might get called by the JT or the K /images/graemlins/club.gif x /images/graemlins/club.gif. J /images/graemlins/club.gif T /images/graemlins/club.gif is the only draw you couldn't push out. I'm moving in on the flop in your spot.

How often do you raise out of the blinds with AQ? Suited? Not suited?

This depends a lot on the makeup of the table. Assuming I was at this table, I would call a raise up to about 5xBB. In general though, it is not a hand I like to play out-of-position.

In this case though, I was the pre-flop raiser.

How tough a game do you consider this to be? What is a reasonable bankroll?

I'm getting back into NL, and that's the only local NL game.

ChicagoTroy - the times they are a changin'. I don't know what that means.

Anyway, there are now 2 different NL games run at Trump. The first is the "big" game - $400 min-buy, no max, $5/10 blinds, $7/half-hour seat charge. This game generally has stacks in the $1-5k range. I have sat in it before (when it was a $5/5 structure) and it is beatable.

The new game, aka "small", is a $40 min buy, $200 max, $2/5 blinds, $6/half hour charge. This is super-beatable (at least based on the one night I have played it). Full of young (like me), over-aggressive morons (unlike me). Seriously 4-7 to the flop, even when raised to 5xBB. See my blog for a full write-up of last Friday night.

Why not go all in? theres 125 dollars out there already that is yours if everyone folds, in taht case its done and overwith, not to mention somone should call, if theres 6 people in the game, somone is gonna call for whatever reason. Not going all in here is the biggest mistake you could ever make, forget betting high and hoping for a reraise all in. It is your time aka your calling.

Outstanding. I'll take some practice time on NL and boogie over there.

Man, trying to learn short-handed play, limit HE, NL HE, and that PLO sure looks like fun. This poker sure can chew up a lot of free time /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I went out last night with a fellow 2+2er, but only one seat in the game was available - and since he drove I let him have it. I took some encouragement from your posts and tried out the 10/20 game - successfully, but with a lot to learn.

do they run the game 7 days a week? I remember when they only ran NL on fridays. No rake, just $6 - $7 per 1/2 hour?

You shoulda told me about that game!!! The 3/6 game was as silly as it gets (one guy called me on showdown with a 7 high, I [censored] you not), but I woulda loved to hit up the NL. Oh well. I just need to keep away from the Omaha table. I have found one of my favorite things at B&M's is the old dude always to my left that continually commetns about losing as he never raises and is in on every river. I love it.

The room manager says the game runs "pretty much all the time." When I called last night at 8:30 it wasn't running but they had an 8 person list. By the time I got there at 11pm, the table was full and I was second on a ten person list...Just call ahead and make sure it is going (1 888 21 TRUMP).
