A few days ago, I ridiculed M’s notion that a “mere threat” could keep an Iraqi oil pipeline closed but it appears that M was right! I had underestimated the strength of the Iraqi insurgency. (I have also ignored a crucial rule of Chess, which applies equally to life: A threat can sometimes have more effect than its execution.)
As the linked report states:
“Authorities kept a main oil pipeline in southern Iraq shut Sunday rather than risk it being attacked, restricting the country's exports to half normal levels.”
