in my last hand post with K K vs A 3, i was told that the guy did'nt have the pot odds to call, much less play the hand in the first place. in example hand #1, me and my opponent had close to the same amount in chips. in this example, i am the shortsack with the better hand preflop getting called by the big stack with, whadda know, a weaker hand. so, is this a good call based on pot odds and if so, why in this instance? i'm thinking this may not be a pot odds issue since it was an all-in, but i could be wrong.

He's calling 640 into an 1140 pot, or 1.78:1; so he's getting borderline pot odds (not really), but even if he assumes that you don't have an overpair (a good assumption) or a 5 or a 7 (another pretty likely assumption), he can excuse the call by saying that he wants to bust you for $EV reasons. I disagree with the call but I think it's close enough that I just say "disagree" instead of "the call was awful"; making calls like this is how big stacks let shortstacks back into the game.

By the way, making a call like this is how Howard Lederer came back from nothing when Gus Hansen made a borderline pot odds call to Howard's allin in PSI.
