There i was on my 10-20 at mucks, getting my ass kicked by the 5 seat who has my number on every hand im in with him. Im actually paying him off a little too much, but that's beside the point. I decide im playing well enough and rebuy after blowing 25BBs.

I raise 3 limpers from the CO, blinds call as do all the limpers. SB is my nemesis mentioned above.

Flop Jh Th 3c

Checked to me, i bet, get 3 callers.

Turn 5h

checked to me, i bet, get 1 caller, the sb.

River Qh

Sb bets out, i raise, sb thinks a bit, then 3 bets. I look at the board again, then cap saying, "I hope you have the 89h."

He does, the table goes wild upon realization that they just got 10K richer. I was really just glad to finally beat the guy in a pot of decent size. /images/graemlins/laugh.gif

We didn't just hit the Bad beat JP, we also hit the last Super JP they will offer. That JP was worth about 260K, for which i got 1/2, along with my take from the normal badbeat JP.

Needless to say, i now have an instant bankroll. No more grinding to build one. /images/graemlins/tongue.gif I will revel in telling my supervisor to go FK himself on monday. The job sucks and i was about a month or 2 at most from leaving anyways. I don't need his reference either since i already locked fantastic client references well in advance. Not that i'd have counted on a good reference from him anyways. The prick.

Anyways, just thought i'd share a great beat story with ya.

BTW Why did you get 1/2 of the jackpot, doesnt the loser normally get more $? Or was it for the royal?

For bad beat JPs that's how it works. For the super, it's not actually a bad beat JP but a JP. Top hand gets 1/2. However, the badbeat JP also applies and is added on with the loser getting the top 1/2 of that amount.

for the replies. I appreciate it.

As hinted at in the 'my boss' thread, it wasn't a great year for me up to this point. Actually the last 4 years have been pretty taxing. Way too much to go into, and besides, everyone has their own crap to deal with. Many worse than mine. But the swing with my mindset took a whopper. Talk about extremes.

Im still trying to get my bearrings back a bit to get back to playing. It's finally slowly starting to hit me. /images/graemlins/wink.gif Funny how now everyone has financial advice. Even the people cashing their welfare checks so they can play the slots and the ones i hardly ever played with or saw in the cardroom. Out of the woodwork they come. Only 1 person has seriously tried to hit me up for a handout so far.

I hope everyone gets to experience something like this in their lives at least once. It's a great feeling.

Keep flopping aces and faces.

Take care.

After paying my royalty fee for "counseling" I'm sure he'll be able to buy a 'slushy' or 2.

/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Pre tax it should have been around $140K or so. Let me just say uncle sam is going to get his 37%, but then again it's a good problem to have.

DimensionPresident
09-03-2004, 04:41 PM
Well, he said the super JP was $260k, for which he got half. Plus the bad beat JP. If you're saying he only got $140k, then the bad beat JP was only $20k ($260k + $20k) / 2 = $140k)) ? I thought the bad beat JPs were much higher than that.

Bernie,

I remember you in the low limit forums a few years back trying to convince me that raising with small suited connectors in EP was a bad way to vary my play! Great patience on your part, and I see it's paid off.

I sincerely hope you continue to use the same patience to double it up, cause I know you can.

It's real nice to see some of the people I started associated with when I was starting my journey into holdem doing so well.

Congrats -- hope to meet you at next year's WSOP!

They can be, although it seems the one at the Muck gets hit all the damned time. Lowest one I have seen was at a table I got up from 10 minutes earlier (my buddy/ride was still playing)- it was just over $8k. Table shares were about $350, which would have nicely covered the two racks I 'recirculated'.
