I've pretty much moved to shorthanded play (both limit and NL) only, since I find I get bored with full ring games. I find that SSH is actually incredibly relevant for the low limit shorthanded games I play, but it will probably be much less useful as I (hopefully) progress in limits.

Is there any good literature specifically aimed at shorthanded hold'em?

The short handed section of "Hold'em Poker for Advanced Players" is very good. Of course, it deals with limit Hold'em only.

A drop in the ocean and pretty much saying nothing and heads up standards vs. very aggressive player definitely too tight.
