Dual monitor help

Just bought a 2nd monitor for my laptop. The 2nd monitor just doesn't display anything. I'm missing something with the settings i guess...any idea?

Usually the external monitor can be enabled by a function key combination.

Right-click on the desktop, choose Properties and click the Settings tab. You're hoping to see two monitors, with one sort of grayed out. Click on the gray one and look for a checkbox for "extend my Windows desktop to this monitor". There are settings to play around with at that point, but that should get you started.

If it's already extended to the other monitor and isn't working, look for the function key on the bottom row of your keyboard (fn) and a key on the top row with two small monitor icons on it (pretty much just little squares). Hold down the fn key and repeatedly press the other one to cycle through the different configurations, ie just laptop monitor, just external monitor, neither and both.
