espn has that snazzy 'projected season totals' thingy for players, so I decided to look at how the Cardinals' 3-5 hitters are projected to finish in 2004, and it's downright silly:

3. Albert Pujols 139r, 51hr, 129rbi, .324/.405/.651
4. Scott Rolen 122r, 40hr, 144rbi, .328/.414/.617
5. Jim Edmonds 108r, 43hr, 111rbi, .298/.415/.627

Oh, yea, and they got Larry Walker too. He's only hitting .370/.541/.741 with 3 homers in 27 at bats since the trade. I don't think it's stretch to say that this foursome (especially with the L R L R capability) could go down as one of the top 2 or 3 in baseball history. This STL lineup can certainly give the Yankees' 1920's Murderer's Row lineup a run for their money.

Anybody remember WAMCO? Not only could they run and hit, but they also won a world series and most importantly have a cool Acronym for a name.

Can the Cardinals offensive punch carry them into the WS and to an ultimate Win? Is it coupled with equally potent pitching? Just rhetorical questions for me, others I think can answer the questions better than I could.

It could very easily be one of the best ever.
Seattle had a pretty fierce lineup in 96.

Who has the better lineup...Yankees or Cardinals?

Edgar Renteria is on fire right now too. Finally remembered he's playing for a contract, thankfully.

They're going to need that hitting, because I just don't know how well they will match up with someone like the Cubs or Red Sox's pitching staffs.

The Cards, and I don't think it's all that close. Shef and Matsui are probably the Yankees' most fearsome hitters right now. Yes I know, A-Rod is still having a solid year, but no one on the Yankees is putting the fear of God into pitchers like the Cards' Pujols/Rolen/Edmonds trio. Now, with Giambi and his upset tummy, and Shef playing hurt, the Yankees suddenly don't look all that formidable anymore.

I have to agree, if giambi were healthy and playing well this would be an interesting debate.

Now consider that the Giants have scored more runs than the Cardinals (albeit in a few more games).

Bonds not winning MVP unanimously would be a disgrace.
