Almost every major city has hookers standing in certain areas...obviously someoneis using them. Is it you?

Should prostitution be legal?

No and yes.

First, this is not a "should" question. Trying to attack moral consequences with reason is probably the most perilous general category of behavior I can think of. The dispersed and abstract costs and benefits over the long run of whoring are too complex for a single individual to imagien he has grasped. Of course it is very easy to brainstorm pros or cons with whoring. But only the evolution of a moral culture will reflect, invitably, the impact of a given moral upon those who transmit it.

Now, frankly I am baffled as to why someone would screw a hooker or, worse yet, obtain "oral sex." (I put that into quotations, because I would define sex as intercourse, masturbation as masturbation, and non-sexual orgasm involving another person as sodomy.) I mean, there is no question that if I go to the pizzeria, and stand in front of the counter for long enough, that I will develop an urge for crunchy-crusted, cheeze-covered pizza. But would I do this by design?

I cannot think of an activity from which I would gain less than screwing a whore - or, even eating an extra slice of pizza after I have already eaten "enough." I understand that God loves children, and so he has hardwired people to screw anything that moves, in the hopes it will produce a healthy family. But God has also given us moral commandments, which we must make a little more effort to follow, in order to achieve the result he truly desires.

Now, for all I know, some people do not have enough what you might call learning or adaptation in their brains - synaptic pruning - to deprogram themselves of immoral behaviors. But more people who use hookers, I think, don't have any sort of battle with themselves at all, they don't even think twice about it. My advice to people, in general, would be just don't do it. And I am no hypocrite on this matter, I have not accepted any of numerous free offers from hookers, pornstars, and generalized sluts, at least since I was 16.

I don't understand why prostitution should not be legal. Selling is legal. F**king is legal. Why the heck isn't selling f**king legal? I don't get it!

I'm not very smart. I don't understand much of what you have pretended to say.

But the presence of your post speaks more about your actions and unacted upon actions than all the postings to the apparent contrary.

pokerbabe,

Hey, a women's perspective on this would be interesting.

This is a real issue. Prostition is the world's oldest profession and doing very well still.

how would you regard a significant other who admitted "using" whores?

Seriously? This is real life!

Those who might have read my recent rants and raves in rgp will appreciate that I am somewhat of a crank when it comes to "legalization" discussions.

To put it briefly and simply,

I think that whether it is morally accepted or not, there is not one logical reason that prostitution should be illegal. I personally think it's sinful, but then again so are a lot of legal activities. The criminalization of prostitution is ridiculous and absurd; if consenting adults wish to exchange a sexual favor for money or goods, where's the victim? Heck, in some circles that's known as a "date."

Whoring John- here is my opinion on prostitution. I think the primary reason for legalization of prostitution is to help prevent the spread of diseases such as AIDS. Regular blood screens and condom use are helpful in minimizing the risk of disease, although of course, not a guarantee. Also, legalization minimizes the chance of junkies "working" for a living, as I believe drug screening is also mandatory in the legal "brothels". I find the concept of a street "hoe" really unseemly and could not imagine anyone going that route. Babe
