View Full Version : Why You All Hate Good Players?

All I hear is Gus Hansen is lucky and sucks, Daneil Negreanu is a homosexual, Phil Hellmuth is an [censored], Berry Greenstein thinks he's high and mighty, Phil Ivey wears stupid jerseys, etc. etc.

Get over the hate and jealousy guys.

I hate you, and I doubt you're a good player.

Sorry for having an opinion.

Also, what if I hate really crappy players? does that make me jealous of them? I don't get it.

What if we found out that Jon Juanda killed and ate 7 babies, would it be ok to hate him, or would be just be jealous of his poker skills?

This forum is just full of negativity from people sad they aren't on the tournament circuit.

Hazing is part of the price of the fame that comes with achievement. Just ask David Sklansky, eponymous recipient of the "Sklankyitis" and "Sklanskyified" awards here at 2+2.

Not to mention the dubious honor of being the absolute hero of a great many proto-conscious online poker playing primates operating from Des Moines Iowa, etc.

We'll know poker has completely arrived when Saturday Night Live does serious spoof of the game and one of it's well known players.

You're wrong, but before you respond, I already have my retort...

I don't care what other people think. If they do not approve they either don't have enough information or lack the intelligence or understanding to know that I am right.

No no no, I heard Juanda definitely killed and ate the babies because they were jealous of his poker skill.

I agree that there is a lot of hatred for many top pros on this forum. I think that the underlying reason for this is the feeling(which I don't agree with) that if we had the time and/or the financial backing of these pros, we would be just as successful, be on TV etc.
Again, I don't agree with this. I could have a million dollars backing me up and never win a tournament.

Good one rookie biaaaaatch! (sorry, had to say it, its the whole reason I use this name)

In terms of Ero's post, troll or not, you're right and you're wrong.

You're right in that we probably have no place nor justification for picking apart the pros. They have all earned their success and fame through years of tears and sweat. Matusow's emotional break down last night speaks to this reality. Ask any professional with no other source of income, and they will without exception tell you that poker is one of the harshest professions there is. They deserve our respect for enduring the swings and "making it", much as any man deserves respect for surviving a harsh reality he has confronted.

Walter too is correct in pointing out that much of our criticism is derived from envy. It is only natural that we would criticize those who have succeeded in the field that we wish to succeed in. And by its nature, Poker is a game of critical analysis.

And if you really want to pick apart the psychology of our criticism, pick up the works of Carl Jung. When people point out the idiosyncracies and shortcomings of others, they reveal their own fears and insecurities. Think about it the next time you feel like calling someone a "douche" or a "fag" or an "idiot"; why is this person arousing anger in you? Could it be because he is exposing something in yourself you're uncomfortable with?

So, you're right Ero, we should all be more positive and reflect on the true meaning of our criticism.

That being said, I did not join this forum to be in a Gus Hansen fanclub. I'd bust that fool with 32 offsuit. Who cares if we poker player hate? By releasing our angers on an anonymous forum, we probably are less apt to do the same in our real life interactions which really do matter. I'm not impressed by your sudden nobility with regards to the pros. If you want to impress me, stop posting so much. Do some community service. Find a girlfriend your own age if possible.

I'm not claiming to be a saint, but I didn't write this post either. This forum is great because it makes me laugh and teaches me about poker. I'm going to save the altruism for the real world.

So in the end, Gus Hansen dresses like a queer, Phil Hellmouth whines like a bitch, Matusow is a douche, Ivey is a compulsive gambler, and (insert a pro's name here) is the luckiest player I have ever seen.

Its socially acceptable to hate the Lakers or the Yankees for stupid reasons as far as I can tell. Steinbrenner just pays mercenary guys to play for him, bloated payroll, Lakers egos are too big to work together. Well I think those stupid Phil Ivey jerseys are a sign of his obnoxious ego, and I think Moneymaker is a little weiner. This IS the internet, if it wasn't for complaining about famous people, the internet wouldnt exist at all.
