I was going for the check/raise on the flop, fearing that everyone would fold to a lead-out bet, but in retrospect, I think that was a mistake.

Was 3-betting the turn excessive? Check behind on the river when the 4th spade falls? I'm not folding, so I thought I might as well bet it.

I'll also bet that no one will be able to guess CO's cards...

I bet Co has a pocket pair and has a fullhouse and forgot to raise on the river?

I like it all the way except for the missed c/r on the flop. It's tough to get a bettor on a monotone flop, and giving away a free spade when you're holding a baby flush would be tragic.

I'm guessing villain has Q9 with a higher spade.

EDIT: missed the "very tight" read. maybe he has something ridiculous like a pair of kings that he didn't raise preflop.

Bet the flop and 3-bet if raised. I see no problem with 3-betting the turn, given the flop action. I think the CO had Q9 with the 9 /images/graemlins/spade.gif.

No one has questioned the river play -- after the hand, I was thinking that it really would've sucked to have been raised. It would be hard to fold the flush, but I was still likely beat. Wouldn't check/calling have been a better option? Or do you just bet and fold to the raise?

BTW, no one has got CO right yet, but a couple have been close...

Regarding the river bet. I do agree this is one time I think you can go into a check/call mode, because you really don't want to call a raise.

And CO clearly had AQs for the royal on the river. He didn't raise you because he probably wanted to make sure he would show down the hand for everyone to see. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I really dont think you can go for the c/r in this situation. I think you want to get as many people out as possible. Try to win the pot right there.

Based on the emoticon, you might've been joking, but that's exactly what he had. Seriously, I think he was excited about the nut flush, then was so worried about the paired board that he didn't notice his Royal, although he didn't say anything about missing bets in the chat (probably too embarrased that he missed it).

In the end, his strategy worked out for him, since I would've folded to his pre-flop raise.

Actually, I was serious about that line of reasoning. I wouldn't be surprised to see someone not raise the river there because they have the "muck/don't show" button checked and they want to make sure everyone gets to see their big hand.

I can actually believe that -- I hit my one and only straight flush on the turn and was really bummed that my one opponent folded to my turn raise.
