My second table. What do you think? Table (http://agentbishop.freewebspace.com/images/table2.jpg)

Not too shabby. I finished my frist table 2 weeks ago. My second table is not too far off in the future.

I like the chip tray. I'm assuming that the extra cup holder is for the dealer right?

Not bad, but I think the color schemes are wrong. You definately need a darker center felt. You could make the outer pad shade darker as well.

That said, it beats everything I use.

I think it's a very nice table. I like the wood before the felt comes into play.

Nice.

Awesome looking table! I really like the style with the wood outer ring before the felt. Do you have some rough plans/measurements you could send me as I want to build one just like this but without the dealer seat. I have seen the other posts and website with instructions but not for your style table. Great workmanship on the rail too.

Sweet table....definitely digging the wood before the felt.

However, whats with the dinky chips? A table like that deserves better! /images/graemlins/grin.gif

Very nice, how did you get the bumper to come out looking so clean?

AgentBishop

The rail? I made a ring out of 1/2 inch plywood that was 5 inches wide, then I stapled 1/2 inch high density foam to the top of rail(same width as rail), then I traced the rail +1 inch on the inside +3 inches on the outside all the way around on foam, then traced the rail + several inches all the way around on a shhet of vinyl, stapled the foam UNDER the plywood on the inside seam, stapled the vinyl under the plywood over the foam, then screwed down the rail to the table(push the stapled foam aside)then wrapped the foam around and stapled then wrapped the vinyl around and stapled.

I want my felt to have my fraternity letters in it next time I build one... anyone got any ideas on how that would be possible??? I was thinking some type of bleach crap I spray into a stencil??? I really have no idea

AgentBishop

I was thinking about an iron-on like you use to be able to iron your t-shirts back in the day. maybe a stencil and airbrush?

RiverTheNuts
08-20-2004, 10:04 PM
I just dont want the texture to be different... I was thinking a iron on would make it sticky/matted there... so would paint I would think... so I was thinking some type of dye or lightening agent... more input is welcomed

AgentBishop
08-20-2004, 10:14 PM
yeah, you're right. I don't know what would work here.

If anyone in Hawaii(oahu) is interested in this table let me know.

bleach would eat through it over time and ruin the felt, it would also create edges that were soft, making most lettering look poor.

Very nice.

I've always liked the wood "trim" and like you choice of red felt and light colored rail.

Definitely post more plans/details if you can.

I plan on doing the same, although you'll probably want to use fabric paint and stencils. I really don't think there is a way you can do it without a little bit of "stickiness."

test an iron-on on some scrap material, or ask the fabric store where you got the fabric what would be best. my concern would be what damage it might do to the foam underneath if it was an ironon since you would be adding it after its already on the table. usually putting a towel over the ironon makes any damage less likely to the fabric or anything vulnerable underneath.

If you get the type of iron on that's actually fabric, it would probably work OK. Ask at your fabric store, they sell the stuff, and will tell you what you can iron it onto.

My tip would be to watch out for those bastards at Kinkos. They copied my design onto the wrong side of the fricken iron on paper I used, which I didn't discover until I had applied the first one to my table fabric. Took about a half hour to try to peel off the damn paper. Thankfully I hadn't attached the table fabric yet, so I was able to use the other side.

My plan now since the fabric got a little messed up is to get some large vinyl labels made, which I think will work.

Fantastic looking table !! Is it big enough for 10 fat middle aged poker players?
If you have the plans and don't mind giving them out, I would love to have on just like this!
Good job,

i was looking around and places put logos on billiard cloth using wool dye. seems to be the way to go. Now if I could just find a way to get a WPT logo on some felt I would build a replica WPT table. wool dye (http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/1344-AA.shtml)

I also built a table like this this weekend, although mine is a full sized 10 person table (no dealer cutout). This was the first woodworking project I have ever done. It is pretty easy if you take some time to plan out what you are doing, have some basic tools, and patience. I had a game on it Saturday night, and everybody raved about it. I'll probably be building another table soon (I already purchased the materials for a second table in advance).

I don't have a digital camera, but I think somebody took some pictures on Saturday (I'll try to find out). I live in Central NJ. Again, this is a job that can be done by a complete neophyte...but it is essential to have access to certain tools (jigsaw, electric stapler, drill, etc.) Luckily, one of the guys I play with had the necessary tools, and was willing to let me borrow them.

Did you make the table with the wood ring at the edge? That's the part I'm afraid of screwing up.

You know, I was scared about it too, but I figured if I am going to go through with building the table, I wanted the "classier" look of the wood ring. You just have to really concentrate on your inner jigsaw cut, since that is the one that people will see. Mine turned out pretty good. Get the deep drink holders, and you are good to go.

i dont know if this has been asked, but i am curious why the wood is there? is it just for the cup holders or a place for the chips to stay on a sturdy place? it seems like it would get in the way. compared to casino tables it is just the foam then the felt. any help? thx

AgentBishop

1. chips
2. cup holders
3. It just looks perty
Its just preference i guess. I like the standard "casino" tables too.

it looks like there is no seams in the foam covering how'd ya manage that. I am gussing a lot of wasted fabric. Sure looks nice though

AgentBishop
09-23-2004, 02:04 PM
If you mean the rail then yes there was a lot of wasted fabric. I could have put seams in the rail to save on fabric but that wasn't an option for me.

TabascoJRC
09-23-2004, 03:57 PM
So I am guessing you ordered a long length and cut it lengthwise. What did you do with the rest of the fabric. I am sure someone on this would want to do the same thing, No Seams, and you could sell it at a discounted price. /images/graemlins/wink.gif
