What are they? Why are they considered to be so good? What makes them so special?

KEM cards are made of plastic and not paper. Therefore they do not warp after extended use like paper cards. You can also wash them or wipe them down if your buddy spills some beer on them. They are worth the investment (mine were $25 for 2 decks). Our home game used to kill 2 packs of paper cards a night until I bought some KEMs. Now we use the same set-up every week. The guy at the store I bought them from said he's had a deck for 15 years. Most cardrooms use KEM or another brand of plastic playing cards.
