I have recently quit smoking (about 3 weeks now) and I have taken up jogging/brisk walking. Over the last few days that i have jogged, i have noticed about half way through my run, my ears will start to hurt. the pain somewhat feels like an ear infection (almost like when one would get swimmer's ear as a kid). i have no idea why my ears would have this kind of pain/pressure; everything else feels fine after i run. does anybody know what it might possibly be. i don't have hearing problems. i live in san diego, so there are some hills where i run, but nothing that would cause any types of pressure changes. and i can't find anything online. any help with this would be great. the only thing i can think of is that it might be from the wind. does this happen to anybody else? thanks for any help.

I think you see an ENT specialist. Could be a bunch of things.

This is interesting. My wife always complains about this whenever she runs, goes rollerblading, or biking, etc.

She always figures that it's the wind.

I have never heard of this from anyone else but her and now you.

She has tried to put cotton in her ears, but I'm don't remember if that worked for her, I don't think it did. Let me know if you find out anything about this.

I have the same problem.

It doesnt always happen, only sometimes

It only happens outside and never inside on the treadmill.

i will be jogging tomorrow night (thursday)..i am going to buy earplugs before i go. i will let you guys know how it went. like your wife, i don't think my ears hurt every time. actually, let me re-phrase that, i don't think they hurt as bad as last night. if they hurt after the earplugs, then i will be going to the doctor in september (wife's insurance doesn't kick in until the beginning of the month). either way, i will let you and Rusty Jedi (sp?) know.

I jogged this morning (w/o earplugs) and my ears didn't hurt bad at all. They just hurt a little. So, I am at a loss. I think I will just have to go to the dr. in september. but, if you guys want i can PM you when i do that and let you know what they told me.

It's blood pressure. I get the same sort of feeling (like water in the ear) when I really strain myself.

Really? Is there anything I can do about it? I want to keep running (i am really enjoying being smoke-free) because it is very important to me.

thanks for the help with this.
