Watching him on the WSOP tonight when he was chirping to Alex (can't remember his last name) the former homeless guy about how he disgraces the game, blah, blah...

Shut up and play jim. Ya puss. Lighten up. I'd like to know how he would compare hellmouth's demeanor to Alex's.

I thoroughly agreed with Henning. It's fun to have someone like that on the table. It brings some entertainment to a monotanous game. He wasn't insulting or berating players (from what i saw. Mcmanus made himself open game after his criticism). He was having fun. It was fun to watch.

Yeah, I thought McManus overreacted, though there could've been more going on that they didn't show.

That was pretty funny to watch Ellix's behavior, especially when he walked out of the casino. Also, he had some nice hair.

Side note: What was up with that guy folding Q8 when Ellix was all-in?

I'm pretty sure that guy was Jan Svojik. He checked top pair and when there was a call and a bet back to him he gave it up.
I played with him on Day 3 of the Big One and he didn't seem to be playing very well.

Couldn't agree more. McManus came across as a real tighta** who took the game and himself far too seriously.

I enjoyed reading of his Cinderella run to the final table a few years ago - good writer but WAAAY to uptight.

While I would agree that McManus most likely overreacted, but I don't believe its proper for people like yourself to come and so harshly criticize the man unless you were there in person. I'm sure there was much that happened at that table that was not shown. ESPN broadcasted and edited the show in a manner that would create the best story for the audience. Reality tv shows today have proven that you can make a "characters" out of the people involved just by focusing on select time periods. I'm sure that if someone aired 15 minutes of footage about you that was chosen over an entire day in which you spent stressed out, you'd come off pretty bad too.

I thought it was noteworthy that the two top pros at the table agreed that Ellix was great for the game.

Maybe McManus should have picked up on that.

It's also not proper to say that crap at a table to someone. I also saw the conversation while the guy was away from the table. Factoring in Henning's comments during this conversation, i can say that mcmanus was a jerk. He's the only one that was 'offended' or bothered. Reminded me of the ol' rock garden games with a bunch of old stick in the mud grampas who's only fun is a nice quiet Politically Correct game. So yeah, i'll call it out.

so if i watch hellmuth or someone else act like a baby on TV i can't criticize them unless i was actually there to see every single little thing that happened??

that's a bit silly obviously.

you greatly overestimate the amount of thinking that goes into the editing of such programs.
they are certainly not out to get anyone or make anybody look 'good' or 'bad'. they just take the best stuff and say 'yeah...that was good....we should include that in the show.'

fwiw....i think Ellix was out of line with his behaviour at times. but i thought mcmanus's remarks were as bad or worse.
and i think there are quite a few players who don't represent themselves very professionally on tv in some of these events.

remember Humberto's awful singing at the 2002 WPO-Tunica event??

of course, if i happened to make it to one of these TV events and the camera caught me on one of my crankier days AND i had to deal with the likes of an Ellis at my table i might not come off very well either.

I can understand why McManus got mad and was probably angry about him playing crap and getting lucky etc. However, to say someone is "disrespecting" the game because he raises in the dark is pretty dumb I think.

Let him do whatever he wants to. He put up the money and if he wants to play like that them let him. I agree that he brought life to the table.

McManus is an idiot who suffers from some type of entitlement complex. But there's one at every table. There's always the guy who likes to play 'Poker Police' and has something to say about everyones actions. I'm sure he was ashamed of himself, and saw how stupid he looked when he watched the replay on TV. By the way, that call with Q8 was absurd.

What surprises me most is that no one is talking about the woman who proudly calls herself "The Bitch", and who flipped off the cameras/table when she got knocked out.

That is worse than anything McManus and/or Ellix did.

She wasn't berating players while she was playing. Plus, she's probably great in the sack.

That is the ugliest woman I have ever seen in my life. She resembled that girl monkey from The Planet of the Apes.

Ouch.

I've slept with much worse. Besides, that's what doggystyle is for. So you don't have to see 'em. That and a good light switch.

Gotta love her body though.

I have played with Jim in Chicago, I never saw him get upset like that before. Maybe I'll try to wind him up next time.
