I should know this, I used to live in Chicago, but I will be there this weekend, Sat-Mon to visit family, staying in Oakbrook area. Is there anything nearby, or am I better just plugging the $10/day at the hotel and playing on Party?

Thanks Yall

The rake at all casinos in chicago area are at least $5 per hand, so you would be better off on Party, unless you don't plan on winning many hands. Hollywood in Aurora might run poker on Sunday, I am not sure. They do not run poker on friday or saturday. Otherwise, you have to go to Eash Chicago and Gary to Harrah's or Trump's. I haven't been to either in a while, but I hear good things about Trump's.

What limits do you play?

If you have access to a car then I would definately make the trip down to Northwest Indiana. From Oak Brook it's about a 45 minute drive, less if you don't hit any traffic.

Harrah's has $5/10 and up. Trump has $3/6 and up (usually with a full kill on the $3/6), plus Trump usually has NL on the weekends, and I think a 60 player tourney on Sat mornings.

These two casinos are within 5 minutes of eachother. Just take the tristate south to 80/94 into Indiana and get off at Exit #5. It's Cline Ave, north, and just follow the signs to "Gary Riverboats" from there.

Trump Website (http://www.trumpindiana.com) If you go to Trump you can call ahead and put your name on the list.

I should add that both Trump and Harrah's have VERY juicy games and are DEFINATELY worthwhile. /images/graemlins/grin.gif

I think it depends on what limits you play and how much you have an itch to play live poker. The trump is a fairly nice room and has a cafe right outside with tables so that you can sit while waiting for a seat. Harrah's is a hole, and unless you need to play 20-40, don't go there.

Harrah's was a hole before they renovated, now it's pretty good. Trump was great when it opened, now the tables and chips are so filthy you need to wash your hands every hour.

The 5/10 at Harrah's plays like .5/1 at Party. And when the wait is too long, the 5/10 regulars have been known to take a stab at 10/20.

Rake is $5 MAX, not minimum. At either level.

Trump will let you get on the waitlist if you call ahead about an hour before you show up.

Either game is well worth checking out, if you can stand driving through the industrial wasteland that is called Gary/East Chicago, IN.

To be fair to the players, the chips at Trump were filthy from the get-go.

I haven't been there recently. I swore that I would never return after going to the Trump...maybe I need to make another visit. Thanks for the update.

Was just at Trump this weekend for the first time. Nice room. Chips are gross, but the soft game made up for it. I played at 3/6 for 7 hours and had a great time. Yes, the rake is very oppressive at 3/6, but the game was very soft and I like playing live.

Don't bother with Hollywood. I've never been there but others can tell you better, but you have to pay to park, pay to enter the casino, etc. It's not a good situation.

Yes, after months of lurking, I have finally gotten around to registering. Anyone should feel free to join ChicagoTroy and I at Trump or Harrah's.

If anybody else is tired of feeling like they need gloves to handle the chips at Trump, post a comment at their website. If a few of us do it (I already have), maybe they'll do something about it:

If you play under $5-10, Trump is the only option (they have $3-6, Harrah's doesn't). If you play over $10-20, there's a time charge at Trump, so everybody plays at Harrah's. Trump's $5-10 game also has a full kill, which makes some folks nervous, but you can call ahead to put your name on the list, so some people would rather not risk waiting.

Thanks for posting the link. I hit that place up about 3 weeks ago and I still feel the need to constantly scrub my hands.
