Do you want MP3 to fold?

Yes. If I just call there's about $42 and it would only be $8 more to call. I don't want him calling with a straight draw.

You are a favourite to win against the straight draw.

At the time of your all-in, there was no straight draw unless you believe three cards to the flush or straight post-flop is a straight/flush draw. I say the more the merrier so bring in MP3 with you by just calling instead of reraising all-in.

The flop came 3 4 J: sure looks to me like 56 would be a straight draw...at .50 bb, people limping in MP with 56s happens all day long.

My mistake......thought I had read flush draw.

this is not really that important. a remotely reasonable player at MP3 will realize that he can't call the flop and fold to the impending all-in on the turn. granted, a lot of players on party are far from reasonable. i would, for what it's worth, call here, but i think it's rare it would matter.

the more interesting question is whether to bet or check-raise the flop. i like the check-raise as there are few hands that will raise you - AJ, a slowplayed big pocket pair (and the dreaded 44 and JJ), but there are a fair number of hands that will bet (any J or overpair). also, giving a free card is pretty safe.

I'm not so sure. 25/56 are approximately getting the odds to call 8:42; but it's so close, getting them to fold is basically even, and you have a redraw. You can always push on a non-7, non-2 turn. And just because they are (barely) getting odds to call, doesn't mean you aren't getting, by far, the best of every dollar going in.

On the other hand, if you can get MP3's A2/34/J3/J4/AJ/QQ/KK/AA to come along with UTG's allin, that is bling bling. If you push behind, 44/JJ might be the only hands that call.

I'm still learning NL, so feel free to tell me where my thinking is wrong?

All-in shows 44 for the dreaded set over set. /images/graemlins/mad.gif
