I'm about to turn 18 and I want to get started on Party Poker. Is it officially legal to play if I'm in the US? I know thousands of people do it, but is it technically legal?

Technically? NO. But seeing that you're still 17 that first smoke or beer wasn't either. I can't promise you that the FBI wont kick down your door and haul you off for playing some .50/1.00, but I HIGHLY doubt it.

btw "thousands" is probably hundreds of thousands.

Isn't it technically illegal to play on PartyPoker no matter what your age is in the US? /images/graemlins/tongue.gif

In the US? No. There is no federal law that specifically addresses internet casino-style gambling, such as online Craps, Blackjack, and Poker. Some say the Wire Act does, but that would only applies to online sports books, if at all. Essentially, this is a subject left up to each state to decide for themselves.

In your state? Maybe. A few states have specifically outlawed its citizens from participating in any form of internet gambling, but not many. Of the states which have not passed a law about it, it's an open issue. In my opinion, however, if you can't show me why it's illegal, it's legal.

Don't play on Party. The Rake is too high. ZeroRake has a much better deal, and you will save hundreds every month.

Of course you'd be playing with yourself.
