View Full Version : Is there Poker in Vegas?

06-26-2002, 04:52 AM
A couple of weeks ago, Oz was at the Commerce and he told me there wasn't even a 30-60 at Bellagio. I thought he was just exagerating, and that things had slowed down in LV after the wsop.

Well, I walked into the Bellagio Poker Room tonight, and guess what? No 30-60. There was one short (3) handed game on the terrace, but I didn't bother walking up there to see what it was.

What has happened to Vegas poker? Will it ever come back?

Hi 3 Brett- Yes, it's been very slow action here lately. The Mirage has been getting the 20-40 going every day, but that is about it. Babe

I have been playing at the Bellagio on weekends and they have had multiple $30-$60 games going. They also have had a $60-$120 game going as well. I guess the $80-$160 game is on the back burner right now due to lack of players. I have not been there during the week but I am surprised that there is no $30-$60 at least in the evening. I cannot remember ever going into the Bellagio and failing to see at least one $30-$60 game.

Of course, June is a slow month here in Vegas. The other thing that hurts is the big Commerce tournament which was going on all month in L.A. But I think that is over now. The action should pick up in July especially with the Orleans tournament. I am now sure if the big monthly tournaments they are having at the Bellagio are helping all that much. I believe they actually lost money on the last one but I might be wrong.

The Commerce tournament is over, and it really wasn't that big. There were a few LV players there, but I saw them leave on Monday. In contrast, on Monday, there were three 100-200 games at the Commerce and a waiting list, along with multiple 30-60 and 40-80 games.

Vegas has always slowed down in the summer, but I've never seen it this bad.

I have noticed that everytime I sit in on a game, seats seem to fill up. People must love me. And my charm and charisma has a positive effect on people's attitudes. Let's face it, I am a celebrity - a true ambassador of our sport.

Here's my promise. I will go to the Bellagio everyday this week. This should result in my fans following me there and livening up the place. This is the least I can do for poker. It's a sacrifice, yes, but it's for the good of the game. I am a firm believer in self-less public service.

Maybe the action is better here than in LV, plus

I think Vegas is in the summer doldrums once the playoff and WSOP end. Too hot there.

Just a thought.

No offense...but your John Patrick jokes are extremely corny. Nobody finds them funny!!

Are you Antonio the majician?

06-26-2002, 06:52 PM
He's Antonio, hairstylist by day and pro wrestler by night.

During the June weekends, there has been either 1 or 2 30-60 games at the Bellagio. Most weekdays have had just one full game. I haven't played them yet so I can't say what they've been like. However, I have been playing the Mirage 20-40 games and they've been outstanding on the weekends. Even on weekday afternoons, they've been good.

Antonio is also the twin brother of Darren Romeo, Sigfriend and Roy's ex-housekeeper and sex slave turned singing magician.

Point and click on "Entertainment", then click on "Darren Romeo".

As Dynasty notes, the 20-40 is a good game (although not by "Cali" standards) and has 2+2 stars (Babe, Mason and Dynasty) playing in it from time to time. So....on that basis alone, you should come and visit. Yes, it's H O T in Vegas, but that's why we play poker during the day /images/smile.gif At night, we swim naked in our pools (no it's not "strip" poker). Babe.

Hi Bob- It's not so much "the economy", but the "crisis of confidence" created among investors by all the bad news on accounting issues, accounting firms and Martha Stewart! The way I see it, as long as Bob and the Babe don't go bankrupt like Worldcom, there will be action somewhere.! Babe's new motto: "Look Good, Play Good, and Avoid Bankrupcy". And...of course...."Buy low, sell high" (ha,LOL). Babe

Amazing. I wonder if Vegas pros will be moving to LA -- more than a few already spend quite a bit of time here, though I have only been playing about a year so i dont know if this is a trend. It seems to me that with a comfortable bankroll, a decent player can make a nice living at Commerce 80-160 (be prepared to drop $10,000 in a not unusually bad 6-7 hour session in this game!), whereas these level games seem to be a real grind in LV, even when spread regularly.

06-26-2002, 10:20 PM
Then why is LA poker thriving?

06-26-2002, 10:23 PM
eeeeeeewwwwwwwwwwwwww. You don't really expect me to rub elbows with 20-40 types, do you?

It's even hot at night. Last night, I walked from the Venetian to the Bellagio. Afterwards, I decided that cab rides were rather reasonable. But I did get a bunch of really cool stuff just handed to me as I walked along.

Because of the huge population they can easily pull from everyday. It will effect them also if the economy doesn't turn around soon...it will just take longer.

I probably have a much better feel for this than most of you, because I talk to major corporations all over the United States every day and many other countries.

When the economy gets bad...it will CERTAINLY have a huge effect on poker!

Babe:

You should have not purchased Martha Stewart's cookware. It is too late to criticize her now!

Stay out of bancruptcy!

Centurion- Believe it or not, my sister teases me about being like Martha Stewart all the time! I love Martha's style and chic cookie designs. I guess a little insider info never hurt anyone, (except Ivan Bosky), but unfortunately, this is bad P.R. for the "Diva of Design". Babe's motto applies here: Look Good, Cook Good.

I don't know. Do poker pros want to escape the

Vegas heat?

Or maybe the word has gotten out. Commerce is 29

miles from where I live and smoggier.

Oh those maniacs! Plus there's Hollywood Park,

the Bicycle Club, Hustler and Ocean's Eleven (good atmosphere, not-so-good games).

In the end I think it's a summer slowdown.

06-27-2002, 06:49 AM
I'm about 99.9% sure that the "Antonio" on here isn't the magician Antonio (my roomate, who has been up in San Francisco visiting his girlfriend for the last two days). 'Sides, I'm pretty sure Antonio doesn't frequent the groups... I could be wrong about that.
