View Full Version : KEM out of business?

My local cardroom recently switched card brands. The auto-shuffler was jamming; when I joked to the shift manager that they needed to stick with the KEM's, he said their distributor told them KEM went bust and those cards aren't available any more.

I find this hard to believe. What banker wouldn't float the best card company going a loan in this day and age?

I'm thinking the warehouse was just out of stock due to demand and they palmed off what they had at the time.

Has anybody else heard about this?

I think the dealer was feeding you a line.

Kem Site (http://www.kem-cards.com/)

Their website is up = still in business.

I would tell your dealer you don't like liars, and never ask for advice from him again. Let him know he screwed up.

Actually the Taj is also using new crappy cards. They have given the same reason...that Kem is having money problems or something.

The Holland Casinos in Amsterdam have switched too, and claimed the same thing: that they had no choice because KEM is out of business.

KEM got bought/merged with another company whose name I can't remember. THey've temporarily stopped production, but it's supposed to start again around the end of the year.

I don't think it's Kem that went out of buisness.... I was under the understanding that thier major U.S. distributor fell on hard times though. The Atlantic City cardrooms had to switch to crappy cards because the AC Gaming Commission hasn't approved the new distributor yet.

They will eventually use Kem cards again.

I could be wrong....that is just what I heard.

My local Games By James store is still selling KEM and getting new inventory, so I don't think that's the case.

Yet my local games store says he can't get any KEM cards back in stock. Does sound like maybe a distributor problem then. Glad I bought my decks when I was there last.

From my understanding its specific KEM lines that are being discontinued, or are no longer available. The standard Arrow back is no more, so get them while you can.

By the way, I was mid-session 4 months ago at the Borgata when they switched cards from Kem to a new brand because they "ran out" due to Kem going out of business. We all know thats not true, but it goes to show how a little rumor based on fact gets twisted.

what there costomer service office said to me is that there in the process of moving there warehouse. and the can not supply replacement cards until aproximtly the fall. and it maybe that there just selling there current inventory, which would explain why casinos have been switching back for the time being. good news is that i had a few cards that were not made well, and they assured me that they will honor there policys when they become operational again.
