I had labelled Villan in this post as "makes stupid calls" -- anyone like the push here? Sorry for the unconvertedness but my proxy server at work is refused by the site.

Well if you like it, you must know sometin' /images/graemlins/smile.gif I thought I had the best hand here (I put him on AJ because of the smooth call), and thought that he might call off the rest with the worse hand. I did not see him act tricky with limp/calls of AA/KK, and I wanted it to look like AK making a play at the pot. I knew that if I bet the turn and got a caller, I might either be bluffed out on the river by a scare card or milked by a set. I resigned losing to a set on this hand, which is something I usually do on P25 and overpairs. I can't really lay them down fearing a set because the times I win really outweigh the times I lose.

Well, the turn is a brick so if you were ahead on the flop you're ahead now. I guess the argument is really between checking and calling and pushing outright because I really cna't see folding here, especially since your stack is only about the amount of the pot (ie money not deep) and you have him labelled as a dumb caller.

In general if you're going to call an all in you might as well push it in yourself because you gain some folding equity, so I say shove it in. Againt certain players that I know will bet if I check but fold if I bet, I'll check/call in the all in, but if you have reason to believe this guy is dumb enough to call then do it.

PS I assume you post this hand cause you lost to bottom/middle set or something. Them's the breaks. On less than 100BB I can't see how you get away from this one, especially given your player note.

Hey Dave,

Short stacks and a loose caller, screw it. All in. He may actually call with hands you beat and not just ones that beat you.

If he actually had a hand, reload and get him next time.
The line is okay though. You can make a case for milking him out a bit on the turn but pushing with not deep stacks is just fine.

assuming your notes were right, it looks like you accomplished what you set out to do with that hand. how strong was your read? (as an academic exercise, mostly - i wouldnt dream of laying your hand down with those stacks/reads, but check -calling/raising allin may have been a better line.)

I'd definitely push on the turn. If he called you with a smaller pocket pair and made his set on the flop, I'd just resign myself to losing my money. However, you don't want to give him a chance to stay in the hand and hit his A or K on the river... or having either of those cards come and allow you to outguess yourself. FWIW, looks good to me.

Good times at Party. Your "makes bad calls" note seems to have been on target.

I like the fact that all the Princeton players respond to each other's posts. It's kind of cute.
