Hello all,

I have been considering getting in on the micro-limit HE action but have a few questions. I looked through this forum but probably missed the answers to my questions, so here goes: Which site is preferred for handling money on-line (neteller etc.) and which site do you like best for playing. Thanks in advance for your time and any other helpful advice is much appreciated.

Many people use Neteller, because its quick and storing money there is secure, but you'll notice they have a very large service fee (almost 10%). The fee will seriously cut into your bankroll if you are depositing a large chunk.

I prefer to use igmpay or some other form of secure online checking. No service fee, so you won't have to make up the bank rake /images/graemlins/smile.gif

neteller is fine if you don't have to use the money fast. It's free if you'll wait like 5-6 days.

Neteller is free if you wait to transfer money back to your checking account?

IMO, Neteller is the best choice for moving your money. Their fees are a little higher than Firepay's, but your cashouts will be faster, and you can access that money almost instantly with their debit card. Party and Stars both have their acts together pretty well, don't know much about the others. Party's lowest limit is .50/1, though, so if you want to play smaller than that you'll have to look elsewhere.

Didn't Paradise have some deal where if you use NETeller they pay your transfer fees? Thought I saw something like that in the few minutes I was browsing their site.

Nemesis,

Fairly new. I have read several books, low-limit by jones, theory of poker, lou krieger, Helmuth's book (unfortunatley) and a few others. Following the posts on this board has helped alot. Also have the WIlson's Turbo texas Holdem. (seems very useful, got it recently though) I like to play alot of the MTT freerolls also (not sure if this is helping or hurting /images/graemlins/grin.gif) Would really like to get into the micro limit for money instead of the dreaded "play money" tables. Any Info/advice you have would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Walt

if u play tight on the .5/1 or NL 25 on party, u will win. The place is filled with fish. I would read the posts on this site rather than books, some of the longer ones are more informative than any book I have seen. Also u will be surprised how many times big pairs are playing at one another pre flop so be careful w JJ or even QQ.

Make a small deposit, get your feet wet, and post some hands for review on this forum. Posting here was the best thing I've ever done for my game.

Also here's a link for you: Favorite Threads Coutesy of Illunious (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=560368&page=&view=&sb=5&o =&vc=1)

I would definitely not disregard poker books, regardless of whether you read these forums or not, as one poster above suggested. That's extremely horrible advice.

I'd read Theory of Poker ASAP, and re-read it regularly. And I'd get Ed Miller's new Small Stakes Hold'em book, too. And eventually Hold'Em Poker for Advanced Players. The books by 2+2 are well worth the money. The first two books especially can make a very dramatic difference in a new player's ability and understanding of poker almost immediately.

Theory of Poker is not specifically a hold'em book, but covers general poker concepts and extremely important strategies using examples from different games. I used it in conjunction with other study to become a winning $15/30 stud player within a few months of my first sitting down to a casino table. I think the highest level I ever played before that was 10 cent limit at home.

These forums are nice enough and occasionally great, but the knowledge you get comes across in scattered ways, at odd time intervals, is generally not terribly clearly presented, and there is nothing in random forum postings that approaches a book's organized attempt to present coherent information step by step.

Buy the books, and re-read them often. Well worth the money.

When I started with Pacific Poker and opened a real money account they gave me $20 into the account for free. So without having to put any money in you can start micro HE there. Hopefully they still do that. Pacific also has good micro games that are the easiest in the business to make money at.

Also GoldenPalace.com has great micro sng's starting at .04, and include .10 and .25. I highly recommend both for getting your feet wet.

Poker Junkie, unless you have a decent amount of disposable income start at something like .10/.20 You'll get a good feel for the game without risking much money. A 500 BB bankroll which should be more than sufficient for a beginning player willing to learn is only 100 bucks, whereas a 500 BB bankroll for 1/2 is 1,000. Maybe i'm just a poor college student, but in an effort to learn poker i'm willing to drop 100 bucks... 1k not so much.

Nemesis and the gang,

Thank you all for the advice. I will definately use it. (wisely I hope /images/graemlins/grin.gif) hope to continue posting here and will definately be lurking here sucking up as much info as I can (especially like the posted hands). Hopefully one day I will be able to post something as helpful as all of you did for me. Thanks again,

Walt
