Blind Help

I'm pretty new to the game...and just have to make sure I'm playing the blinds right. For example, there are two players left, I have the button. Does my opponent pays the small blind and I play the large blind? And if so, if he just calls the big blind I don't get a chance to place a bet?

You are small blind as the button when playing headsup (1v1).

If you call, the big blind has the option to raise.
