Just sat down, no read on the table or players. Two questions, was the raise on the flop appropriate, and is the laydown after he comes over the top automatic?

Party Poker No-Limit Hold'em, $0.50 BB (9 handed)

UTG ($25)
UTG+1 ($31.50)
MP1 ($39.40)
MP2 ($31.90)
Hero ($26.40)
CO ($23.50)
Button ($47.10)
SB ($21.10)
BB ($13.60)

Preflop: Hero is MP3 with J/images/graemlins/spade.gif, J/images/graemlins/heart.gif.
UTG folds, UTG+1 folds, MP1 raises to $2.5, MP2 folds, Hero calls $2.50, CO folds, Button folds, SB folds, BB folds.

Flop: ($5.75) 6/images/graemlins/club.gif, 2/images/graemlins/heart.gif, 2/images/graemlins/spade.gif (2 players)
MP1 bets $4, Hero raises to $8, MP1 raises to $35, Hero folds.

Final Pot: $48.75

THAT IS AN OBVIOUS LAYDOWN TO ME. AA/KK/QQ WOULD ALL PLAY THE SAME WAY, AND I DOUBT TT OR LOWER WOULD, UNLESS HE IS A MANIAC. I LIKE THE RAISE ON THE FLOP TO SEE IF HE IS BLUFFING WITH OVERCARDS. I ALSO LIKE THE FLAT CALL PREFLOP WITH JJ.

Considering this is party, it could be either way. Maybe he wouldn't play a large PP that passively PF, but it's possible. I'd say it's 50/50 you're beat, but probably he's got some kind of PP. I've seen this move being complete bluffs as well, however.

"I've seen this move being complete bluffs as well, however."
you are correct. however, i would want a read on the guy as a bluff-machine before i call that much with unimproved jj.

Does anyone reraise flop to see where you are at?

I might consider this at $100 NL Party level, but it is very player/read dependent

Yes, of course you don't call if you're not feeling lucky /images/graemlins/laugh.gif
It's just a possibility that the other player didn't even consider his low PP being a bluff!

Given the ratios, (if you call the flop bet, there is only 1 bet left in the stacks), raising the flop and then folding to an allin is not a good idea with top pair/overpair type hands. It's a prety big mistake in my opinion. Usually with a one pair type hand, you will either raise allin or fold on flop. Although, given lack of draws on board, I can see exceptions against certain players here where calling flop and getting allin on turn is ok. It's related to getting doubled through by hands you bury.

If there was more than one bet left had you just called flop, then usually just call with these type of hands.
