I have seen a lot of posts asking about the skill levels between the 10's-30's, but not many after that.

My SnG Marathon (TM) has been going great, and my bankroll has been growing tremendously. I moved up to 20's in lightning time. I did great there, and was reluctant to move to the 30's out of fear, then I did after a bad streak, and I am killing there too. I dabbled in some 50's and had mixed results. I am positive my results were do to bad luck opposed to no skill.

Anyways, I had another stellar day so I decided I would play 1 of the 109s. I knew it was a gamble because I only planed on playing one. My thoughts were as long as I can play long enough to get a feel for the skill level then I am happy win or lose.

I saw hardly any skill difference between here and the 30's or even the 20's. Granted its only 1, so I am asking oppinions on the matter. I played my usual game, I played with no fear, and I became short stacked when it got to 5 people. I was aggressive and stole blinds when I felt it best to. I managed to double through someone and then became the 2nd stack, moving on ITM, then having a good HU match and took down 1st prize.

I am only sad that I dont have the bankroll to play here all the time. That said I will continue on my quest to move up and up. After taking out my rent I am left with a 2200 bankroll now.(the extra $391 really helped) I will be moving to the 50's when I have 50x(2500) and then to the 100's when I have 5k.

Am I wise to move up with a 50x bankroll or am I being too cautious? Is 30x enough to take a stab at it? I still fear the move to the 215s atm.

Also RoI expected... I am fairly consistant with a 36% RoI from 10s-30s. My goal is 20% RoI at the 50's 15% at the 100's and a 10% RoI for the 215s. I feel my goals are low, but I will be happy with those results.

I know that no one can predict my roi, or if I will be a winner, but for those of you that play the 100-200s what was your roi at the lower limits? Do you remember?

Any help is appreciated. Thanks as always.

I have fairly long-term (500+ SnGs each) statistics that show I do significantly better in the $50+5s than the $100+9s. I wouldn't draw any conclusions from a sample of one tournament. I never dabbled in the $215s.

I never stuck around at 5,10,20,30 long enough to get long-term samples there. My impression is that the first significant jump in skill is from 50 to 100.

Just thought to share that my ROI actually increased from the $30 game to the $50 game. Starting out with 1000 chips at the $50 level is a greater advantage it seems than the disadvantage of playing with 'better' competition.

While I did notice a difference in skill from the $30 to $50 game, the difference wasn't anything to be scared of. My observation is that just because half the table doesn't kill each other by level 2, doesn't mean they're solid players.

So, if you're a winning player at the $30, then the $50 shouldn't pose a problem. You don't have to move up all at once either - just play some $50 games here and there at optimal times of the week/day (ie, Thurs & Sat night) and play the $30 games the rest of the time. I think that can accomodate your bankroll, although I personally think 30x is enough to move up.

To answer your last question, I think my $30 and under STT ROI stats was somewhere around 41%.

Good luck if you move up!

Is the poker calculation for ROI different than any normal ROI calculation?

For example if someone says they have a 35% ROI at the $20+2 tables, then he's saying that he is earning on average $7.7 per SnG?

Calculated like the following:

100 x $22 = $2200
$2200 x 1.35 = $2970

$2970 is the amount of his winnings, and the player nets the difference $2970 - $2200 = $770.

$770 in winnings divided by the 100 SnG's gives the player a $7.7 winnings per SnG played?

Is this correct?

Yes, Scuba, that is correct.

Have we got 2 stupidsuckers onm this forum? One is doing great and the other one is having his worst run ever. I don't get it. Anyway I was thinking of moving down to the 30s but having played a few I think they're harder than the 50s, I would take a while I think to get used to 800 chips. I personally wouldn't be playing any level without a 100 buyins but as you can always move down again if you start running bad I spose it may not matter to you. It's the 3 weeks of staying almost exactly even that does my head in and then you need to pay the bloody mortgage.

It is correct yes, but a much simpler way would be doing it like this:

35% = 0.35

0.35 * $22 = $7.7
