I will be returning home after nearly two months on the road.

Just a few observations:

1. Never bet anything when you have to wait for the result until the following
morning.

2. When in Rome, leave you wallet behind. The vacanze romane
could be on you.

3. The German autobahns are vastly overrated.

Having said that (I haven't bet since that Indians post a couple of weeks
back), and looking over my results this year, could it be poker
(I mean holdem) has a better expectation? And is the standard deviation
for sports that high? Math nuts, please let me know.

Or should I combine both? One thing I will not be doing this football
season is betting offshore. I think it's too easy to bet. And when I have
to go to the window and hand over cold hard cash, I find that
my decisions are better and my percentage is higher.

I like the idea of having the cardrooms as an option rather than betting each
weekend. Comments?

"When in Rome, leave you wallet behind. The vacanze romane
could be on you."

Wear a money belt.

"Having said that (I haven't bet since that Indians post a couple of weeks back), and looking over my results this year, could it be poker (I mean holdem) has a better expectation? And is the standard deviation for sports that high? Math nuts, please let me know."

Expectation depends on (1) how well you play poker vs. bet sports, (2) how easy or hard the poker games you have access to are, and (3) what stakes you play poker and bet sports, so there's no universal answer on which is higher EV. Standard deviation in sports depends on a couple of factors - for example, are you betting point spreads at -110 or betting all kinds of combinations and long shots, and what percentage of your bankroll do you risk at a time?

"Or should I combine both?"

If you can do both about equally profitably, you should definitely do them both provided that doing so will not overshoot your bankroll.

"One thing I will not be doing this football season is betting offshore. I think it's too easy to bet."

You should seek out the best lines and prices, whether B&M, offshore or Internet, provided that the offshore operations and Internet sites you use are safe.

gr8 to hear from ya...

i feel strongly about this statement...if i need to check the scores on late games; then i am betting too much....or i am too immediate results oriented...; either way, i do not think this is positive..

ya gotta use offshore books to get the best lines..i just cannot see using a casino book; unless i was planning a "big score"

hey; why not just play poker until football season...

see how it goes..
