View Full Version : Vegas Hotel Rates ... Where should I stay?

I'm planning a trip to Vegas with a few friends for Columbus Day weekend. It is looking like I will be needing a room all to myself. I planned on staying at Mandalay Bay, but at $250 a night, it's stretching my budget. Is there any hotel on the strip where I can get room for around $150 or less that weekend? What do you recommend? Is there any place that will offer me a poker rate?

Any leads would be much appreciated.

Sincerely,
Michael aka BacMan

If you are planning on playing poker, call the Mandalay's poker room and I am sure you can get a better rate than that for 4-5 hrs of play per day. You might also try the Monte Carlo.

Unless you plan to actually use the hotel room for anything other than a few hours of sleep, stay someplace cheap, but close to good poker rooms. My wife and I stayed at The Mirage for three days, but never used the pool, hardly ate there at all and were almost never in the room (just a few hours sleep and a quickie here and there).

Try the Westin Causarina just off the strip...best beds on the strip, nice little casino, and within walking distance of the Belagio and Mirage...

they have real good looking waittresses at Westin Causarina.

I think Ballys is a great location centrally located. North tower has real nice rooms.

tropicana or flamingo...they both have very resonable rates but the quality is still good. not to far from the action either.

people might start to think im a shill for this site since i seem to recommend it about once a month, but check out biddingfortravel.com. it is a board system like 2+2 and offers bidding strategy for priceline.com.

i got the venetian for $100 a night right after new years this year using their tips on priceline.

Reserve a room at the Tropicana for around $200 a night. Then hope that they screw something up and over-book those rooms. Then they give you an upgrade to suites in the tower for the same price. I know it's a long shot, but it happened to me. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

$200 at the Trop? YIKES!

I hate that place, but it's regular rooms are 25% of that on weekdays.

Try hotels.com

I picked a random 2 day and got $55 a night at the Trop, quite a bit more on weekends, but not $200 [$135] and keep looking that place sucks and goes for way less than that elsewhere, only has location going for it.

If you wind up there, I recommend their comedy club.

Their buffet though is the pits.

tropicana in vegas!? YIKES! buffet was more like a wendy's super bar. Comedy club? are you talking about the lounge singers because my ironic hipster friends had a riot of a time there.

I vote mirage.

If Columbus Day Weekend is from October 8 (?) I have no idea where the replyers get those rates from.

I just went on expedia.com, and here you can stay at Sahara (on the strip) from $95, Stratosphere from $105 (on the strip) and the Gold Coast (around the corner from the Strip) from $115 per night ... pretty decent deals, and these are NOT poker rates ...

Best,

It's not exactly on the Strip, but the rates at the Western Hotel and Casino can't be beat.

Rates vary greatly from day to day...I usually book my Vegas room 1 or 2 days before arrival through the internet...rates there vary greatly as well from site to site...heres a site I've used regularly ....

web page (http://www.tripreservations.com/index.cfm?CFID=1301526&CFTOKEN=b8712f57729374ac-B5F068B2-3048-71EC-0038DE65C8B5F2A4)

Rates often change every day, booking late as possible usually results in some very good deals...

The weekday rate I paid at Mirage was $89, and I got that by calling them directly. They quoted me $139, but I told them I saw them at Expedia for $98. The attendant went into the tank, then came over the top of Expedia for $89. I called and MHIG.

Check the Luxor. Call and ask to be connected to the poker room.

I was in Vegas last Columbus Day weekend, and they were the only strip hotel who didn't adjust their poker rate for the holiday weekend.

Poker rates are not always that good. Sometimes they are no better than regular internet rates.

When I started planning my trip, I was interested in location, four walls and a ceiling, a shower and a bed. After all, I'm there to gamble, not get complimentary 1-oz bottles of lavender skin conditioner.

If that's all you're concerned about, I suggest Imperial Palace. I got five nights including Fri and Sat night for $325.

Homer (I think) suggested a program to me called TravelAxe that scans just about every online travel site for the best deals for every hotel on or near the Strip... that's how I got my rate for this trip. I'm doing round-trip air and hotel from Tampa for five nights including a full weekend in Vegas for $550.

No, the Comedy Stop is in the tropicana, LV... It's a decent comedy club... It's on the 2nd floor, the elevators to the right from the front enterance will get you there quickly, their shows are 3 comedians and change weekly.

Yeah the buffet there is pathetic, it is the worst laid out one I know of as well.

But, if you want a cheaper room at that end of the strip actually on the strip it's still there for folks.

There are some real low end dumps across from the Luxor & MBay if he doesn't mind a bit of a walk.

Downtown wise, I'd stay at the Lady Luck to avoid all the NOISE of Freemont Street and it's a good low end gambling joint STILL...

If you don't have to stay in the fanciest joint on the strip, it's Tropicana all the way. They treat you very well, you can get midweek rooms for as low as $40 and weekend rooms as low as $90 (go to their website for this), and it is within very short walking distance of the Excalibur, Luxor, and Mandalay poker rooms. I stayed there last week and it was fantastic, even got a free upgrade to a suite just for having to wait in line to check-in! Bravo.

IP all the way baby! They are a monorail stop now, they opened thier own poker room, you can walk to the mirage drunk, and best of all . . .

They will give you a free buffet for every royal flush! (by the way, this sounds like a joke, but I was just there and swear it's true!)

IP has probably the worst buffet in LV.

Hence the humor in linking the buffet to a royal flush!
