View Full Version : Screen Resolution - 1240x1080 vs. 1600x1200

I just bought two new monitors. Flat screens, one 17" and one 19". They both have screen resolution maxes of 1240x1080 and when I play pokerstars multiple tables (which I always do) there is overlap and it is annoying. It's not even the money I mind, sounds like a big pain setting the return up and shipping the monitors back. Plus my friend says that since I threw the boxes away there will be a restocking charge.

Anyway, my question is, how much of a difference does no overlap make going to 1600x1200 screen resolution vs. 1240x1080. Is it worth upgrading again? (I suspect it is since I play poker so much).

Definitely worth the extra $$ or hassle to get the 1200x1600 monitors. If you bought the new monitors you might as well get ones that are capable of doing more than your current ones.

this is a super important thread, everyone on 2+2 should respond.

honestly, i LIKE overlapping tables. i'd rather have 4 overlapping tables then 4 with no overlap, but just really small.

Get a 20" or 21" LCD monitor that does 1600x1200. Dell's 2001FP is a nice one, so is the Samsung 213T for playing up to 8 non-overlapping tables.

The dell can be had for under $800 on sale, I've seen the Samsung under $1k on eBay. The Samsung is VERY nice, BTW. The extra 1.3" does make a difference, though a small one.

So BK, are you saying it's worth it?

Would rather have one 1600x1200 than two 1280x1024 for multitabling. Seriously.

It's why this (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=879391&page=2&view=collap sed&sb=5&o=14&fpart=1#879391) would suck for multitabling.

Also covered here (http://forumserver.twoplustwo.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Number=691338&page=&view=&sb=5&o =&vc=1).

it was worth it for me for 1450 shipped total, easily. especially since most regular flat screens are like 500 or 600 each

Yesterday I bought a Starlogic 19" flat screen CRT. I think it costs $139 plus tax at Office Depot. It has 1600 x 1200 max screen resolution. So far I think it is awesome. I can play four tables with zero overlap. It may end up being junk in the long run but so far I love it. I would suggest limited budget persons look into a 19" flat screen CRT. jmho

Thank you,

Thanks for the responses, particularly your link to Dynasty's thread illuninus was helpful. I'm going to buy this right now.

The only thing for me to decide is what to do with my "old" monitor, the 17" flat screen. I could return it back to newsegg and lose 15%-20% cause I threw away the boxes and instruction manual, I could try selling it to friends (though no one right now is interested, this could be a long time or never) or I could just set it up so I have 3 monitors working.

If you 8 table, having a 3rd monitor is handy. My setup is 2 1600x1200 and 1 1024x768.

Is there anyway to change the coding of the tables so they fit 4 on a 1240x1080?

I've seen this asked before, no one had a solution, although it's not impossible for some utility out there to make it possible.

For example, the free virtual network console app that I used when I was messing around with playing on my cell phone allowed the screen to be resized so that a larger resolution would fit on a smaller resolution. Also, someone was posting about editing the executable to change button locations in the party client, maybe something like this could be used to make the windows smaller.

Tosh,

I have a 19" monitor that only supports 1280X1024. However, I can fit 4 tables with no overlap. Here is how I did it.

Open the display properties screen and choose "settings"

Choose the "advanced" tab

Choose the "monitor" tab

Uncheck "hide modes this monitor does not support"

Go back to the property page and slide resolution to 1600X1200.

This has worked for me. My question though (as asked in another thread) is will this damage my monitor if done for too long? Any techies have thoughts?

Tried it but it really f'cked with the screen so I put it back. Thanks for suggestion though.

I noticed it a little late, but Dell is offering their 2001FP LCD monitor, 1600x1200, for $764. Unfortuntely, the deal looks to be expiring at 0630 on 8/5 (today). It includes free basic shipping too, so just add taxes. Sorry for not posting this earlier, I have been waiting for it to go on sale and just noticed it in time myself.

Dell (http://accessories.us.dell.com/sna/ProductDetail.aspx?c=us&l=en&cs=04&sku=320-1578&category_id=4009)

Note, the web page says the offer expires on 8/4, but when I ordered it, I got the sale price and shipping and the confirmation e-mail stated the offer ended at 0630 on 8/5, I don't know what time zone that references though either.

I thought I was the only one. I just bought a desktop (had a laptop), and it came with a 15" HP flat screen with 1024 by 768 (IIRC) resolution. The overlap doesn't bother me at all.
