On the flop, you have an easy call just based on immediate pot odds, same on the turn. You really should have raised the river though, he is easily going to pay you off here. Ignore the villian, he played it like a gimp, I'd say he probably had AA or QQ.

Make it $10 on the river at least, and go all-in if pushed. (at least that is what I would do)

Raise the river.

Let's see.

Preflop: Good hand to call with in a five-way pot.

Flop: I don't have a problem with it. You have a gutshot and a backdoor flush draw, and you're getting 12 to 1. That silly underbet by the PFR in first position screams to me of someone who doesn't know how to play a pocket pair -- I'd believe anything from AA/KK/QQ down to a set of deuces on the flop. It doesn't even matter. This means your implied odds are pretty good, because you know he's not going to fold it.

Turn: Odds are a little iffy but I personally might still go with it. Again, implied odds.

The only thing I'd do differently is push on the river. You know he's not going to let go of his hand. The only hand that I could see him having that beats you is KQ diamonds.

Based on the way you phrased that question and his underbets that look like he's trying to extract small change from you without making you fold, I'll say AA. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks for the quick replies guys. I realise now I should have raised the river but I was worried he could have been drawing to a diamond flush as well, which would almost inevitably have been bigger than mine. Passive I know, but I am trying to get better /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Anyway he showed the Ace and Jack of clubs for two pair so I won the pot - he was indeed drawing to a flush, just not the same one as me. The fact he spiked two pair on the turn and river even though he missed the flush doubtless made him somewhat more irate /images/graemlins/smile.gif

if he has a bigger flush he will most likely raise and you will have to call anyway.

if he'll call $2 when he doesn't have the flush he will almost certainly call a bigger bet.

therefore, being worried that you are beat is a bad reason to make a small bet on the river. bet at least $6, id bet $7.5.

Flop: Let's see, he bets $.50 into a $4.50 pot for a chance to make the nut straight with a 3 and backdoor flush. $5:$.50. The price is right.

Turn: He bets $2 into a $6.50 pot for not only the gutshot, but now a flush draw? $8.50:$2. The price is right.

River. He value bets whatever hand he has for a piddling $2? Raise this guy all-in. Punish him for being the idiot he was was for school girl betting after the flop.

Guesses? AA?
