Hello there.....first time player - I started playing
about 5 weeks ago on line (never played a "live" table)
....ended up winning a 357 player tournament for a seat
in a €1,000,000 televised tournament....I can play a bit
obviously, however I am under no illusions...just
wondering what would be the advice, best book, best site
to learn - just so as I dont make an absolute complete ass
of myself.....

thks

There's a great selection of books sold by 2+2, and can be purchased via the site. I would pick up a few of them if your serious about playing poker.

1. Hold 'Em Poker(covers the basics, not essential but still contains useful information for the beginner)
2. Hold 'Em Poker for Advanced Players
3. Poker Theory(must read)
4. Tournmanent Poker for Advanced Players(since your playing in a tournament)

And of course the forums, specifically the Tournament forums, will improve your game. Good luck.

Yep - nl hold em - its the pacific poker Uk open in
October.....going to hit a few "real" tables - just
wanted the best advice on learning the basic ins & outs
in a short space of time - the format is 6 to a table.
Im not the worst palyer in the world, however I know that
in 2 months of internet play I aint going to learn a huge
amount.....
if someone was to rec one book or one site that they would advise for someone with 2 months to grasp a few basics that would be great.

Congrats.

As for sites - you've found it; this is the best place for info. Play, post hands, get criticism. Also read other hands and other people's thoughts, etc...

As for books. Read Theory of Poker, Sklanksy's Hold 'em Poker and Advanced Hold 'em, - and, from what I've heard, Ed Miller's new book on the home page of 2+2 /images/graemlins/smile.gif. There are many others in the series that would be worth you while, probably the tournament book also.
