I am planning a vacation and would like to go to a tropical location that also has a great casino. I've looked at a few - aruba, puerto rico, atlantis, even monte carlo, but I have no frame of reference. I was wondering if anyone could give me recommendations based on personal experience (okay - one degree of seperation is fine too) based on the following criteria: location, casino action, value for the money. Thanks all.

The Atlantis is bad ass, although not real 'tropical'. My wife and I went for a week on our honeymoon. The 'Dig' is incredible - it's amazing how much marine life they have swimming around there.

Only thing is - it's f'ing expensive. If you want to stay in the Royal Towers (highly recommended) that's gonna cost you a few bucks. The food and drink there are just outrageous. We got tired of getting raped and headed over to Nassau a couple times for dinner just so we didn't have to pay $90 for dinner. One night, we went and ate outside at this place that makes a really good pizza. My wife and I both had a 'personal' pan pizza, I had a couple beers and she had a couple glasses of wine. Bill? $55

The casino's nice - great live music when we were there that you could hear throughout the casino. Standard table games (no poker). Michael Jordan was there at the same time we were and they had him roped off in the high limit area playing 1 gazillion dollars per hand. There's some nice golf on Paradise Island as well, although I didn't get to play.

We went in late Sept. and it was still humid as hell down there. We were really looking forward to eating breakfast in the room on our balcony but it was so muggy that it was very uncomfortable and took 30 minutes just to get the room comfortable again. (They have an AC unit that automatically switches off when you open the sliding glass doors to the balcony)

Anyway, that's my .02. No doubt you'll have a great time if you go there, despite the high prices - it's a pretty incredible place.

Cool. Thanks for the info. However, I probably should have clarified something when I bumped this thread.... I am interested in a tropical casino where I can play poker.

When I saw this thread started Costa Rica came to mind. I've been interested in going because of the national parks and rainforest tourism, too.

Jayadd, have you been? That hotel is in San Jose - did you explore any of the parks or do any eco-tours outside the capital?

Thanks,
SG

Thanks, jayadd.

Did you play in PR? What games were spread, how was the rake, players, etc?
