The only other time I've heard the word "Poo-bah" was on the TV show "Happy Days." The leader of Howard's lodge was called the "Grand Poo-bah." I believe Howard wanted to be elected to the position of "Grand Poo-bah." Anyway, there's you a little tidbit of totally useless trivia.

Gilbert and Sullivan's Mikado was the first appearance of the word Poo-Bah. The word was made up by them.

And lest I add unneccessarily to my post count, which I consider a bannable offense, here's a couple more points:

* The word gained acceptance in society at large as a mocking term of the uselessness of many self-important bureaucrats. One might consider a Poo-Bah a false authority: one whose verbosity is not backed by wisdom.

* To that end: uh, like I said, adding unneccessarily to your post count should be a bannable offense. Useless posts--especially ones that start a new thread--are anathema to this board and its members. If you want to post toroscatalogical commentary, do it in the zoo. They're not real people.
