Pretty standard IMO, sometimes you're shown a better hand, more often you're shown total crap.

most of the time you'll get popped on the turn. expecting someone to bet at that board is stupid. I don't think this is thin at all.

So nobody raising the turn is what gives you the confidence to bet the river? You would expect someone holding a jack to raise right? OK I can see how that makes it worth betting the river.

Also, if it is weak to not bet the set on the river, was the other guy weak not betting the bottom end of the straight?

This is part of the reason you bet. One of the hands that beats you basically can't raise and a ton of worse hands will call but not bet.
