I took my mother to Vegas for her birthday. We arrived Monday morning and checked in at the airport with the Flamingo. Got the rent-a-car and away we go.

The room wasn't going to be ready for several hours, so we headed to North Las Vegas to gamble. Hit Texas Station (dingy), and Fiesta (good food). Got back to the Flamingo around 2:30 and had to stand in line for 30 minutes to pick up the room key. What's the point of checking in at the airport!

Headed back to the airport to pick up my sister flying in from New York, and now the fun begins. Started with 2-4 at the Flamingo. Couldn't catch a break and lost $200 in 5 hours.

Hit the rack and got up early.

Tueday morning I walk over to Bellagio, wait about 30 minutes, and get seated at a brand new 4-8 game. Play 2 hours, and win $120 (-80 for the trip so far). I had my first and only celebrity sighting. Spencer Christian from Good Morning America was playing 30-60. He didn't do to well and left after an hour. Back to the Flamingo for lunch with mom and sis, and then 2-4 at the tables. I play 3 hours and win $93 (+13). That evening I played blackjack with the family at O'Sheas, drank free beer and ate 3 GIGANTIC hot dogs.

Wednesday I had lots planned. Woke up early (why is it people only sleep 4-5 hours a night while in Vegas?) because I wanted to go work out at Las Vegas Shotokan (karate). The class was at 11, near Palace Station, so I had time to kill and sat down at a 4-8 with a 1/2 kill. Rock Garden. 9 rocks and me. I played for about 1 hour and lost $40 (-27). Strangest hand was me in LP with 44. No pre-flop raising. Flop is K-8-4 rainbow. Rock (BB) bets, I raise, rock re-raises, the only other rock in the hand folds, I re-raise, he calls. Turn is 7. Rock checks to me, I bet he just calls. Because he didn't bet or raise, I figure him for K-8, K-4, or perhaps 8-4. River is something like deuce or trey. Rock checks, I bet he calls. I turn over the set, he says, quite loudly, "No good." and show 8-8. I thanked him in my head for saving me 16 dollars.

My wife calls to tell me that Ed Miller's book has arrived. Great, I'm in Vegas, and the book is back in Louisiana. I went to karate class, worked up a good sweat, and showered back at the hotel. Then off to downtown for the 2+2 meeting at Binions. Met alot of nice guys and gals including CAPONE! They guy has been giving me $hit for years and we finally meet. We decide to play the 40+20 NLHE tourney that night at the Sahara. After the meeting, where I learned that my check-raising habit need to be curbed, several 2+2'ers head upstairs for some 2-4. I played with Bryan and Shannon, I can't remember their handles, played for 2 hours and won $63 (+30). Then I headed to the Saraha.

Checked in with the brush and gave him $40 (-10) and went to the grill for some tacos (REALLY GOOD). Got back to my seat(8) with 2 minutes to spare. I see Bryan on the other side of the room and I see CAPONE in seat 4 at my table! 12 tables, 12-handed and I get seated with CAPONE! The very first hand of the tourney, Capone raises, guy on my immediate left re-raises, Capone pushes, and the guy calls. Capone has AA, the guy QQ. Capone spikes the A and the guy re-buys. I also re-buy $20(-30). I steal a few, make one big semi-bluff and manage to hit the first break with T4000 (3000 to start with the re-buy).

Capone, Bryan, and I shoot the $hit during the break. About 5 minutes into round 2, I make the biggest bonehead mistake of the entire trip. I've got AK offsuit and make a big raise, another player calls. Flop is J-8-3 rainbow. I push and get called. He's got KK. FCUK! What a Magoo I am! Now I've got T800 and the blinds are 200-400. I get JJ and push, get called and I'm up to T1800. I wait a awhile and the blinds hit 400-800. I'm UTG +2 and pacman is coming around the corner to eat at my chips. I've got A9 offsuit and push. LP calls with KK and I head out. Capone tells me about the juicy games at Excalibur and I decide to hit it tomorrow. Back to the Flamingo with mom and sis to play blackjack and drink beer.

Thursday I'm up after a restfull 4 hours sleep and head to Excalibur for 2-6. Capone was right, juicy as hell. Unfortunately the worst player at the table is also the hottest (no, she was UGLY, just getting hot cards). I'm down $200 in 2 hours. Then I hear a voice now familiar to me....CAPONE! He's about to sit opposite of me, I coax him to sit on my right. With Capone and me playing at the same table, they don't stand a chance. I win back my $200 and $80 more(+50) over the next 3 hours. Capone buys in for $400! Funny as hell to see a mountain of chips in front of him. One hand I had AA, Capone has QQ. Q hit the flop and the bastard keeps betting! Of course, I get to spin the wheel! I win $35. He drops about 80, and finally hits the $100 NL game. Its full of Magoos too and he's up $100 within 30 minutes. I bid farewell, and head to the Aladin for shopping with mom and sis. Then back to the Flamingo for a NAP(wow!). That night I hit O'Sheas again. This time while mom and sis play blackjack, I play video poker at the bar for free Guiness. I get $hitfaced.

Friday morning and I feel like crap. The week has finally caught up with me. Cobwebs, fuzz, bad taste in the mouth. Perfect playing conditions for poker. I hit 2-4 at the Flamingo and win $20(+70) over the next 6 hours. Friday night I crash at 9pm. I'm really, really, tired.

Saturday, and I'm up at 6am! Whee! I go to the Barbary Coast for $10, double-deck blackjack. Guys, the BC has the HOTTEST dealers! All these chicks from Croatia, Bosnia, Yugoslavia. OMG! EVERY SINGLE ONE WAS HOT! I win 80 or so dollars, tip WAY TOO MUCH, and go pack.

On the plane ride home, there are 3 babies on board. All 3 are crying ALL the time. I get no sleep but watch The Rock in Walking Tall (BAD movie but the chick is hot).

Excal is still the best for 1-2 blinds no limit, we'll have to fleece the fish next time. Mandalay's 2-4 no limit is often juicy too.

I finally played 2-6 again and got redemption: +175 in 40 minutes, after which my no limit seat opened up. -$10 in that after 1 hour, at which point I went to eat.

See you next time!
