I was just wondering, were there Texas Hold Em books in the 1930's through the 1960's? Is Hold Em Poker by David Sklansky the first hold em book published? I think the book was published in 1976.

The earliest book on HE I am aware of is:

Steamboat Willie discusses Texas Hold Them (1927) by Steamboat Willie

i thought hold-em poker was invented in the 1960's.

there was also a little book called Super-System.

There were a few books that mention hold’em or had a chapter or two dedicated to hold’em, but I believe Sklansky’s was the first book completely dedicated to hold’em.

Amarillo Slim’s Play Poker to Win (1973) had a substantial amount of hold’em information in it, but no where near the accurate and useful info of even the 1976 version of Sklansky’s book (which was originally only a 63-page stapled pamphlet and cost only $2.95).

Super-System wasn’t published until 1978 (under the title How I Made Over $1,000,000 Playing Poker ).

Texas Hold Em didn't really come into existance until 1963, when it was introduced to Las Vegas poker rooms by Felton "Corky" McCorquodale (a Texan).

Sklansky's HOLD'EM POKER written in 1976, was the first book devoted exclusively to this game.

Texas Hold'em as the name implies was a regional game from the South. Johnny Moss testified, if that is not too strong a word, to its existence in the 1920s. It came to the fore when Corky introduced it into Vegas and it then became the Championship game at the WSOP in 1970. There were no books devoted exclusively to Hold'em before David Sklansky's book though it did get individual chapters dedicated to it in poker books.

slim's chapter (in historical context) is actually pretty interesting because it advocates ideas that are later fleshed out in super system, including playing the small suited connectors and getting in all your money on a draw
