Goin to Vegas soon...I normally play only craps over the last few years...won some lost more...duh...

My problem is I like to gamble when I'm there...I can beat the SnG's on Stars...I can hold my own at the NL ring games...but when it somes to limit I suck. I've read books on limit etc. but am overall loser at limit.

Is there any hope for me in Vegas to hold my own this trip? My bankroll would be about $1500...any suggestions?

I figured I would play tight as a drum preflop, get aggressive with top 12 hands or so...can I last 30 hours or so this way? Or better to stick to craps?

I know I know I should practice limit play on Stars before I go but it puts me on tilt...

So play no limit.

Play no limit max buy in. Excalibur spreads a 1/2 game, as does the Sahara and I think also the Luxor.

I hope this is a joke.

If the 1/2 NL games are anything like they are online, you should be fine.

Ya I try the NL game then...dunno why I didn't consider that, but after like 15 times in Vegas I have never played poker...

I would buy Small Stakes Holdem Em by Sklansky and read it front to back a few times. Then try your hand at some Stars limit games to get a feel for it. The play in limit is quite different, but once you get the hand of it, it becomes easily understandable. So just study up on the small stakes limit strategies and get some practice. That should set you up fine for small stakes tables in Vegas.

I've read WLLHE 2x's...still I stink...I think the NL Excalibur game sounds right...

One of our betters has pointed out before that to a losing player it may in fact be cheaper to play a game like craps where the casino has only a minor edge.

Think of your great grandmother, if you took her to the casino would she lose more money playing baccarat or texas holdem?

Howdy Eder!

Excalibur's NL is $100 min/max buy-in, if you dip below I think you can only max up to $100.
[if anyone knows for sure on this, please enlighten]

Luxor's is $50 min/max but once you get to $49 you can buy another $50 there.

I have played neither but someone I know has, and does well at both, you have to be prepared for a couple suckouts, so $300 a session should be fine.

Try those, and if by some chance you burn through $1000, drop to Excalibur's $2-$6 spread, and losing $500 there will be tough or $1-$3 if you are really concerned about your limit play, but don't want to run out of funds, and at night they have a very small but FREE buffet for players at Excal.

The 2-6 at Excal is one of my regular haunts now....

Good luck!

What's wrong with going to Vegas and playing some craps?
Not everyone goes to Vegas to "grind and earn" it out on poker?

I for one, love playing craps. I usually blow no more than a few hundred dollars which I can easily afford. It's enterntainment value and as far as I can see, it's well worth spent.

The thing about you Justin is that you see things in absolute terms and not relative. What people do for fun with their money is their own business and you have no right to ridicule them.

Thanks for the info...sounds like fun, and I definately will try these games...I figure if I keep the double Crown Royal's coming I can figure their cost into my bankroll and cut down on my overall variance..

I could be mistaken but I don't think double crown royals will decrease your variance.

there are a lot of NL games in vegas. I recently started in playing in casinos and prefer it more than online even though I was winning about 10 Sit and Gos on pstars a day.

a 1/2 game or even a 2/5 game is real fun. plus u get to see the people fidget and everything so u can actually make a read on more than betting patterns.

holla

p.s. there are NL games at bellagio, luxor, excalibur, binions downtown and the palms has a 2/5 NL game in their high roller poker room

It's a 2 to 6 spread limit game - you can bet any amount between $2 and $6 on every street.

The NL game that I've played in there is the 1/2, $100 max/min buy-in. AS an earlier poster mentioned, you can add another $100 when you drop below $50, so you can bump to near $150 to maintain a relatively avg stack as the table progresses.

I found both games ridiculously soft. Any tight player with decent instincts can clean up in those games.
