The other day, I thought I could bluff the river HU with AQ high and take the pot down.

When my opponent called, I knew I had made a mistake.

Imagine my surprise when the chips came my way.

Value bets, plain and simple. /images/graemlins/smile.gif

Was hoping for some more response to my river plays but maybe I shouldnt have posted the results. Heres what I was thinking:

Hand 1: My river bet was actually a value bet. The way the hand had played out I was certain my opponent had high cards so if he had AK I wanted to give him a chance to fold what would otherwise be a split pot. I also felt there was a chance he would call me with a hand like AQ or AJ (which he did!).

Hand 2: Obvious bluff by SB - if he had anything he would often check/call the river instead of betting out, though not always. I was getting 1 to 6.5 on the call though.

Hand 3: Several draws on the board that all appeared to have missed. I wasnt going to get called by a busted draw, so I checked my ace high with the intention of calling if anyone bet.
